I like the idea of using pollen from a particular daylily to cross with many others. I still haven't had success yet with freezing pollen though. I think typically, most folks (like me) just cross with whatever is blooming that day. I have a fondness for Dragonfly Dawn and it's children seedlings. If I could spread pollen around ... that would be the pollen I would use on everything! Born to Be Wild is another one that I have children from and would like to use the pollen from those as well. I happen to like fancy and ruffled patterned blooms and both Dragonfly Dawn genes and Born to Be Wild genes appeal to me.

I culled my DD seedlings from the last two years. They just all look the same to me. Im about done with seedlings, except DIPS. With the small amount Im able to plant, the DIPS give a far better variety for me. Im looking to make some UFO's with some saturated color this year. Only Mother Nature knows whats in store tho. Im also looking for that bridge plant that gives me 'the flower'. For 10 years now Ive heard...Oh the flower is easy, its making a good plant thats hard. WELL....Ive got some pretty good plants with some good scapes, but I dont have a plant that gives me what I want in color..shape..etc. for 'the flower'.

Here is the first bloom of the first seedling to bloom! I am sure the other blooms will look better, but she is the best (and only) bloom in the nursery today ;)

Muata - Congrats on your first seedling bloom! I like the contrasting colors and the border on the petals. Nice! I look forward to seeing the next blooms on this daylily!

Thanks Becky ...

Another seedling blooming today reminds me of a ladies' blouse.
Maybe not heavy in substance like some can get, but charming and perhaps rust-resistant.
Pat - Beautiful seedling blooms! I like them both! Nice flower form and colors!
Two more 1st time to bloom seedlings:
"Laughing Clown x Zanti Misfit" seedling: 30" Scape, 7" Bloom, 16 buds on scape. A nice sized fan(s). Seedling is somewhere around 1 yr and 4 months old.
Side view:
A sibling seedling of the cross "Through the Looking Glass x ?". Interesting that this one is also yellow. A much brighter yellow than the first sibling to bloom (at the beginning of this thread). 26" scape, 7" bloom, 9 buds.
Side view:
I did not see either blooms this morning as I was too busy the check the garden. So I don't know what they looked like first thing in the morning. These photos were taken after 5 pm. I crossed them with each other (not knowing if they are both tets or dips) I don't have these planted in nice rows like the newer garden. These are a little more challenging to mark as I planted 2 sibling seedlings right next to each other. So now I have to rename them each with a unique number for cross-referencing. I must do that this weekend as I will forget which ones are which. Working full time sure gets in the way of my daylily hobby!
One of my first to bloom seedlings from last year, which is a cross of "Stippled Statement x ?", is putting out 3 scapes and is looking awesome! I can't wait to see all the blooms on this one as this will be it's second year to bloom. This was grown from a seed(s) I received from Sandi (seedsower). It was one of my favorite seedlings last year! I was so sad when the last bloom wilted. Looks like I am going to have 3 times as many blooms on it this year! I am also not seeing any rust on it so far. I hope that means that it has some resistance! It is one I am seriously considering possibly naming and registering depending on how it does this year and next. Here is it with 3 nice scapes coming up .... though I don't have any serious branching going on yet with this plant (and may not ever have good branching on it). Last year, it never had more than 1 bloom open at a time, so was not a problem last year. We shall see what it does this year. I just loved the blooms! It was my absolute favorite last year.
I am seeing a few more seedling scapes popping up on many daylilies yet to bloom for the first time. For me, this is a most exciting time! I really enjoy growing seedlings because I never know what the blooms will look like until that first ever bloom! I know many people prefer to grow registered cultivars. I love the mystery and possibilities of seedlings! I guess I just march to the sound of a different drum ....
I was surprised that both these new blooms were 7". I just don't get 7" blooms on most of my seedlings. Very nice to see such large blooms gracing my garden beds!

It's exciting to see what some of my seeds are producing for you! I'm wondering if that Through The Looking Glass seedling could have been crossed with Etched Eyes.
I have an Etched Eyes seedling that kind of looks similar, although I crossed it with Suddenly Blue.
Oh Sandi! So glad to see you pop on here to comment on the seedlings I've grown from some of your shared seeds.
Well, I just have to agree with you that Through the Looking Glass x ? seedlings that I am growing (two seedlings which have recently bloomed for the 1st time) sure do look a lot like Etched Eyes. You know what daylilies you have in your garden that could be the pollen parent. So looks like that may be the other parent. Do you have anything else in your garden that looks similar? If not, then there is a good chance you may have figured out what you crossed Through the Looking Glass with of the seeds you sent me!
