Fred - Thank you! I like that UFO, too! I had a new one blooming for the first time today. This is the sibling to Laughing Clown x Zanti Misfit. The stats: 31" scape, 7 1/2" bloom, and 18+ buds. (CCC08):

Those are beautiful, Fred. Every spring when I start looking, I wish I had the space and the capital to have one of each of the beautiful ones I see on line and in the books!! Problem is, I am fast finding out its getting harder to take care of all that I have, lol.

Fred - It's amazing how different two sibling seedlings can look, isn't it?! Both of those are beautiful! It's almost like looking at a photo that has been color-changed. Similar in many ways except color!

Karen - I can relate. I once wanted acreage, but now that I am older, I am finding that a residential lot is more than enough to care for. Of course, I don't have just daylilies ... I garden for butterflies and hummingbirds (as well as all other creatures). So I have all kinds of different plants. And maintaining all of that sure keeps me busy year round!

Two more first to bloom seedlings today. Both of these were grown from seeds from @Hemlady (Cindy):

Cherry Custard Cheesecake x Palace Garden Beauty. 19" scape, 4 1/2" blooms, and 10 buds. This one looks a lot like the pod parent. Petite blooms that are quite charming. I don't have anything else like it currently, so it's a nice addition. A little rust on the leaves.

Thumb of 2015-04-16/beckygardener/1708ba

Actually there were 2 blooms on it today:

Thumb of 2015-04-16/beckygardener/3eb0e0

The other seedling is interesting and disappointing at the same time. Of course, this is the very first scape and it can change in a couple more years. The interesting thing was the color blend. It appears to resemble to the pollen parent. The disappointing thing was that it is literally blooming down in the foliage. I am hoping the scapes get more height in the future!
Galaxy Explosion x Lily Munster. 10" scape, 6 1/2" bloom, and 5 buds. No rust. I've noticed that about all the spiders/UFO daylilies don't appear to attract rust. That is a VERY good thing!

I post all the stats and photos to show others that might be trying hybridizing or want to try it, so they can see all the different possibilities when you cross plants. You never know what you will get!

I have both Lily Munster and Galaxy Explosion but I have never crossed them together.
Lily Munster has very short scapes that bloom in the foliage like your seedling.
You said that your seedling does not have rust, that is probably true because Galaxy Explosion will not get rust according to the hybridizer.
Your seedling is very interesting, looks like it has some stippling.
Your red eyed one is very nice too.

Ashton/Terry - I thought I had read that about Galaxy Explosion somewhere. Thanks for confirming that info about the rust resistance! Always good to know when trying to hybridize. I had no idea that Lily Munster was a low bloomer. That explains the scape! I thought it looked like stippling, too, when I saw this first bloom. Interesting bloom indeed! Even more interesting genetics in this cross! Thumbs up

I also forgot to mention that the BRIGHT yellow "Through The Looking Glass X ?" (Etched Eyes might be the pollen parent) seedling (CCC02) that I posted photos of previously is sending up a second scape. I didn't realize it until today, but it has grown into TWO fans, not one. It also has side branches developing off the scapes and has a very straight and tall scape which I really like. No leaning. And the blooms seem to hold their color throughout the day. I am liking this one more and more. Will be using it for crossing with others.

That is odd that you both mention that Lily Munster blooms down in the foilage. It has not done that for me. For me it blooms just above the foilage. It is not real tall but haven't had issues with it.

Forgot to say that I liked the Cherry Custard Cheesecake seedling!!!

Cindy - Thanks to you, I have an adorable "Cherry Custard Cheesecake X Palace Garden Beauty" seedling that I also like. I like it very much. I also do like the Galaxy Explosion x Lily Munster seedling, too ... am hoping that the scapes get a bit taller over time. Very unusual looking color that looks like stippling (which I really like!). Thank you for all those seeds. I have many seedlings that I grew from your seeds. Can't wait to see them all bloom. Hopefully this year! Thumbs up

Nice Becky, I should have some UFs blooming in a couple of days.
Due to rain the last few days I have taken very few photos. here are two small with the same pollen parent.
You can see the rain damage.

Fred - That pink bloom is really unusual (to me)! I love it! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby And the other one isn't too shabby either.

I had one seedling bloom (first time) yesterday:

Another sibling of "Laughing Clown x Instant Graffiti". I love the genes in this cross. Tall, sturdy scapes with 3 branches and 16 buds. 27" tall with 6" blooms. I can't help but wonder how it will do next year since it I've read it takes about 3 years for the plants to stabilize. This cross (with all the siblings) is sure putting on a show in my yard. I am curious to see if it reblooms later in the season. It also seems to show a favorable amount of rust resistance. Some very nice qualities!

Morning photo:

Thumb of 2015-04-19/beckygardener/42070e

Afternoon photo showing some fading of color, but it is still lovely. This shows a side view of the bloom. You can see I tagged (my hand-pollination) with a pink paper clip.:

Thumb of 2015-04-19/beckygardener/2b243b

I need to get some of those little tiny tags to mark my crosses. The sun tends to fade out any writing I do using marker or even pencil. So I hope the color on the clip lasts long enough for me to collect any seeds to know the pollen parent.

Today, I had 2 new (first time to bloom) flowers in my newest daylily bed.

This cross is "Cedar Point x unknown". It was a gift seed from a win on LA. It has a 20" tall scape, 5" bloom, with 6 buds total. Has some rust on the leaves. It seemed to have a hard time opening this morning. I hope the following blooms open easier.

Side view:

Thumb of 2015-04-19/beckygardener/049c03

Another sibling of Galaxy Explosion x Lily Munster .... I really like the bloom, but the weight from the bloom flopped the scape over, so I had to stake it. Short scape at 8", 6 1/2" bloom, with 6 buds. A tiny bit of rust on a couple leaves. I sure love the bloom. Will cross it with a spider type with a taller, sturdier scape and more blooms to see what I can get. Always interesting when growing crosses as the possibilities are nearly endless!
