Welcome! to all of the former DG members. I followed Dave & Trish when they left and haven't looked back. Life is too short to put up with nasty and condescending comments.

Katie, I would also like to welcome you to ATP -- I think you will find it much different than what you've been experiencing at DG, which wasn't always that way... many of us here came from DG! I also sympathize about the kidney infection... I've been there, done that, and hope you are getting some antibiotics (also, not something to mess around with for too long... our kidneys are kind of an important part of our bodies Smiling ). If you have any problems finding your way around the site, don't be afraid to ask !

Welcome! @katiebeara When you feel better, poke around here a bit and you will see lots of folks you may remember. I am glad you made it home okay and that the resident problem is squared away. Definitely time for you and the furkids to catch your breath and concentrate on you and home.

So very glad to have you join us here. Group hug Jean

As for the thumbs up discussion....a lot of times I am late to the table, so to speak, and a thread has dozens of posts to it. There is no way my rusty sieve mind can remember after reading 123 posts to say "Myriam, I like what you said" "Tiffany I do agree, that is a pretty plant", Etc. A thumbs up tells the poster that you saw what they posted, read it and think it is funny, poignant, spot on or you just enjoyed it without having to edit your post 30 or so posts later to remember it.

I am not sure what is being requested in the following post...

"How about DELETING OLD MEMEBRS Who never participate in any threads make it so people have to buy a membership of 2 months after that if they do not renew their membership they are deleted all their info should be deleted ecept for plant files they donated ..

JUST Keep track of the PAID Up Members if they want plant info they should pay for it like the rest of us"

It sounds like if you don't subscribe, you should be deleted except for the Plant File contributions which become property of the site? Confused

Dave and my policy is "no policing". We hate being the police and only do so if absolutely neccessary (spammers, and other horrific acts that are wonderously few). Who said that? Way off base. They will probably do away with the paid subscriptions before they would do that. Plantfiles is very cumbersome now anyway. Of very little use to me.

Katie nice to see you here. Now I don't have to lurk over there to see what you've been up to.

MoonHowl/Jean -- I saw that, too; I think if they do that they will be down to a very small number of members! (and posts... just imagine if they took all the posts off from everyone who has left the site Blinking . Lots of "fill in the blanks" to do)

I agree

This has been demonstrated repeatedly over the years, but participating in the recent "beta seed swap" really made it obvious to me! If someone said "it would be better if we did it this way," and others were in agreement, unless there was some real reason why it wouldn't work, Dave had it done in a few minutes. Really incredible -- what other website gives you that kind of opportunity?

I agree about Trish and Dave! They are the best!

Another thing I'd like to add is that I think most of us, or hopefully all of us, consider this a family site, and we are aware that the children of Dave and Trish hang out here too. Maybe not as often as I do (I'm obsessed), but they are around, and I think that occasionally helps to keep things nice and friendly when tempers flare. I've seen very little rudeness here, as there seems to be almost everywhere else. People can argue, but it seldom gets nasty. And when things get out of hand, someone usually steps in to calm everyone down quickly. That really doesn't happen anywhere else that I'm aware of. Elsewhere, everyone seems to feed off of the anger, and things explode. I've never seen that happen publicly on this site, and I'm so thankful for that! It probably doesn't hurt that there is a Grumpy thread in the Sandbox forum, where everyone can vent!

I was a former DG member, way back when, and loved it there. It just wasn't the same after Dave and Trish left though. People started getting nasty, and trolls came out of the woodwork. @mcash70 was nice enough to send me a message there, telling me about this awesome site, but I was still trying to cope with DG, and had so much going on otherwise, that I didn't cut the cord for a while. I also didn't want to lose contact with friends I had made there. I did join here, but didn't post or read much. When my membership there came up for renewal, I bailed quickly, and have never been happier! Thankfully, almost all of the friends I had made there have moved over here, and the trolls stayed behind, where their horrible attitudes seem to be welcome. Hilarious! I LOVE this site, and can't imagine life without it!

I'm another refugee, and am happy to see a lot of folks I remember from DG. Definitely don't like the issues and changes going on there and it really hasn't been the same for years. It's not that I am change resistant, I'm all for it when warranted but the changes are pretty drastic in my opinion and the issues resulting from them are very annoying.

I don't understand how none of the issues were not found when beta testing was done and I just don't have the patience to report every little problem to the admins.

I am happy to see the thumbs up feature; I don't post much because I sometimes read posts days after they've been made and even if I want to comment, it seems rather pointless! At least with the thumbs up, I can let someone know their post was appreciated right at the post!
