How sweet Joseph's Coat looks without any orange. I just love the combination of pink and yellow in roses.

Most of the flowers in my garden look pretty awful right now because they're frying in the sun, but look what the intense heat and sunlight did to George Burns:

Thumb of 2011-09-21/zuzu/9b8ebd

Hardly any yellow at all. I think I prefer this look to the "real" George Burns. This one looks more like a McGredy hand-painted rose. And yes, that is a nasty cucumber beetle in the middle of the bloom. I didn't even see him when I was taking the picture.

And in case Angie looks in, here's a photo of Jasper, her favorite. He's impersonating a potted plant, and it's a good thing because he squashed the plants that were growing in the pot, thereby creating a job vacancy he is now filling.

But Jasper fits the pot so well...

I have to protect many of my potted plants with "decorative" stakes to prevent a similar fate. Window boxes are doomed for certain.

Me, too. I can't have potted plants or window boxes either. The cats always find them to be very comfortable...but it does make for a great photo op !

LOLLLLLL.. learned a lot time ago not to bring in potted plants 'cuz Conan will eat them down to the dirt. But, for some reason, everyone leaves my African violets alone.. haven't lost a single one due to kitties knocking down/eating. Yay! Smiling

Perhaps they appreciate the finer things in life? Orchids might be safe too.

Today I got the Weeds monthly email newsletter. The photos of Koko Loco are soooo luscious that I have to get that rose. Oh I love those subtle colors.
Anyone have a good suggestion for where to buy one?
I guess my backup will be to go ask a local nursery to put that on their weeks order, if they haven't already placed next year's order.

It's so beautiful, JD. Just fabulous! I really lucked out with mine. I had ignored it on all the websites in fall and early spring because I wanted to see it "in person." When I did see it, I fell madly in love with it and started searching frantically for it, but it was already June. I managed to find it on the Edmunds' Roses website just before they shut down for the year. They sent it to me (at half-price) bare-root in the middle of June and it already looks like it's been growing in my garden for years.

If your local nurseries won't cooperate, you can order it right now from S&W Greenhouse or Regan's Nursery for shipment to you in January or February. I'm sure Edmunds' and Rosemania will carry it too, but they aren't taking orders for next season yet.

Cindi - Let me know if you can't order it or find it locally. My LGS are going to carry it (I think both Tagawas & Paulinos both will carry it for the 2012 season). It's an absolutely gorgeous rose and takes a pretty high spot on my favorite rose list (probably close to #5, maybe even #4). But let's just see how they survive my winter here. I have 2 of them (one I got from Edmunds, one I got a few weeks ago from a LGS), one in the back, one up front. I saw the Weeks email and was sighing over it... I just love it.

Thanks, all. Ha i put Weeds catalog instead of Weeks, you can see where my mind is.
I'm going through the yard, cleaning up, pulling daylily scapes and cutting iris and peonies, and I see I have 3 more roses with RRD. This is discouraging. This summer we had no blackspot, no JB's, no problems for roses other than drought and heat. I've sworn off buying any more daylilies because they were total wimps in the heat. I have also sworn off buying most anything in spring in summer until I have some sort of automatic irrigation system and that won't happen soon.

My master gardener group did a casual poll and noted that evergreens took a big hit here this summer. That was an unexpected casualty!
What I really don't understand is how ragweed everywhere is 6 foot tall without any rain. We're having the worst allergy season in years! i think what made that worse around my neighborhood is most of the ponds have dried up, and ragweed grew in the pond bed. I can't mow around the edges of the pond because it's still mucky, so the weeds are huge!
I do have a few roses trying to bloom. the Austins, in particular are putting out some small blooms. Lovely fairy is full of blossoms.

It actually is dry enough here that a lot of the ragweed has died too - like everything else!
