Excellent point Ms. Zu ! I figured it was mis-pronounced most of the time.

Forgot to comment on your E von Schubert: You'll get plenty of blooms next year. Mine really took off the following spring after I planted it.

In reference to a post on mislabeled roses at HD (rose forum ???) I was at Lowes today and they had a ton of 2 gallon YELLOW floribunda roses that all had the label "Trumpeter" on them. The last time I looked, my Trumpeter was as red as a pepper.

They looked identical to my Sunflare floribunda...but then again, I'm no expert at rose ID like Zu, Sue, etc. Sunflare is a common one in these parts.

The rose at Lowe's that always makes me laugh is the "Red Lady Banks." I wonder what she's called when she's at home.

Does anyone else remember that old expression? Maybe I'm a lot older than most of you and maybe it's a regional expression, but when my friends' parents would hear people referred to by their nicknames, they'd ask what they were called when they were at home.

I wonder what rose it really is since it can't be the Hybrid Spinosissima listed here, described as blush red, (pink?) it's not even in circulation:
http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

Notice how many people marked it as a favorite, not realizing it's not even the correct rose they have in mind, most likely the yellow one.

That's funny, Sue. I guess some people just go down a checklist and mark those roses as their favorites without seeing what they're doing.

I think the red one at Lowe's must be Excelsa or something else with the same characteristics as the yellow Lady Banks that's so familiar to people.

So many multiple names, so much confusion!!

I just added Sea Foam to my wish list, another big shrub! I have always admired yours Zuzu and just remembered to add it to my HMF list. Seems popular enough to be able to find one soon I hope.

LOL, well great!! I tip my hat to you.
And I was just looking at Mamajacks new interest thread for roses for next spring. I was very happy with the own root ones I got from Chamblee's last fall, except for a couple that don't seem to be happy as own root. I may want Ambridge Rose and Green Ice.

Unfortunately, I don't have duplicates of those, Sue, but Mamajack is planning to buy them now and then grow them in her garden until spring, when she'll send them out. Wouldn't you rather grow them in your own garden until spring? And in view of the co-op charge, the double shipping, and the small size of your order, will you really save any money by having her pick them up wholesale? Their prices seem low enough that you might do better to just order them from Chamblee's directly.

Chamblee has Ambridge Rose and Green Ice available for shipping on September 26th, and you can order an Enchanted Autumn rose for me and we'll split the shipping costs.

Ahh, the voice of reason, you are so right!!

And I think I really need to talk myself out of buying any considering I still have about 58 roses in addition to about 150 iris and 80 daylilies left to plant! Not to mention all the other plants and shrubs still in my holding area, which looks like a nursery! I mean really, I need to be sensible! There is always next year! Big Grin

This winter, I'm going to try greenhousing some bareroots from like Palatine, GVR, & Edmunds to see if I can get them going before the winter's over. I know how my LGS does it, so I'm going to try & emulate it as close as I can. Not to mention "hydroponics for tomatoes" *cough cough* is VERY popular here... Thumbs down Thumbs down Thumbs down

Hydroponics is very popular here too, it seems. The local police just broke up a drug ring that was growing marijuana hydroponically in several specially converted suburban houses.

The police here aren't going to bother people about hydro unless it's a HUGE grow, like 200+ plants. We've had a couple of those in the past few years, but not many. Here, a "caregiver" can have up to 6 plants per "patient", plus 6 plants for themselves. And, unfortunately, getting a "red card" (license for usage of MMJ) is easier than pie. Seriously.

But I can't wait to get my room finished.. I got the lighting for it. What I'm planning on doing is, in my "craft room", I completely tore apart my closet (had sliding glass doors). I'm going to line the walls with clear plastic shower curtains (Dollar Store!!) and I have these wire shelves that I will create into a 2-3 tier system (haven't decided exactly how yet). I have a ton of 2gal buckets and I can pick up good soil year around at some of my LGS. I'll have the lights on timers so that they'll pop on at like 7am and go off at 10pm. I'm lining the walls/ceiling so I don't get a mold-outbreak and my house is so well insulated that I know that it'll stay very warm, no matter what I do. I'm figuring that it shouldn't be that difficult.. and if necessary, a friend of mine has some empty 55gal aquariums that he can let me have and I'll just use those for a grow-start. I used a 10gal aquarium a few years ago for seed-starting.. started the seeds in the middle of March so they'd be ready in May.. and then it wouldn't stop snowing/frosting until the latter part of May!!
