I don't have a scape, but (weather permitting) I will have flowers one of these days Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

It was hidden beneath some evergreen perennial and I only noticed it this morning when I pulled that out
As it is wáy to early for my DL's to flower, I've put a glass vase on top of it, for protection and some extra warmth.

Hopefully that will give it the boost it needs to bloom.
(wouldn't that be cool!! nodding )

The DL is Lavender White Eyes.

I have been trying to determine how long from bud to bloom and I also think about three to five weeks. I can see it taking much longer for the larger flowers to form and a shorter term for the smaller ones.

I saw those but didn't think they were daylilies, I have some Amaryllis that often look like that, the blooms are almost on the ground when they open the scape is so short. I have some solid red ones that seems to get about a half inch taller each year.
Thumb of 2016-03-31/Seedfork/fafcee
I have never had any daylilies do that.

Temperatures may speed up or slow down scape growth as well. Tomorrow is predicted to have a high in the low to mid 50s and overnight tomorrow night puts temps back in the potential frost. That might give a scape pause about shooting up into the cold air. Smiling Would fertilize effect the time? Or just aid in production of forming a scape?

If we are making guesses, I have nothing to base this on, I would think fertilizer would have a big influence on the scape forming and growth.

Nope Whistling
The buds are growing fatter, but still hardly any scape (I will take a new photo tomorrow)
I think it was só eager to bloom that it forgot that it had to grow a scape first Hilarious!

Last summer this DL produced normal scapes (11, although they were a bit short) and flowers (52), so I really don't know what is going on here.
I checked and last year this DL (Lavender White Eyes) had it's first flower on June 25th, but as I bought all my DL's last year
it may have been later than usual?
We'll see. I'm sure this will be an eventfull season :-)))

Thanks for showing me that bud without scape, I didn't notice the post!
I'm having a lot of leaf growth, many new fans but no signs of scapes, I guess it's too early. Damn, I want scapes!

Well, that didn't take long. I found another scape coming along on another fan of 'Tusk'. I swear it wasn't there this a.m.!! I think the first one is taller, too. Maybe they go from appearance to bloom quicker than I was thinking Smiling Smiling .

I looked back to see how long it took my first daylily to scape this year to actually bloom. I found the scape on Feb. 22nd 2016, and I had my first bloom on 'Ming Porcelain' on March 13th 2016.

That's prox 3 weeks! Did you find that scape just as it emerged or was already something of a growing scape? Is it possible I'll be seeing blooms on 'Tusk' by April 20? I've seen a killing freeze here on that date in prior years!

That is a beautiful bloom, is that a dormant? Not much info showing for it in the database, maybe you can provide some more info when yours finishes blooming.

needrain,
The scape was pretty well along when I first noticed it, see first photos in this thread, I was not expecting to actually find scapes that early.

Well, I think using April 1 for the scape on your 'Jedi Brenda Spann' is going to be close for the beginning growth of a scape. I notice the 'Tusk' scapes are growing rapidly. I still think it'll take 3-5 weeks, but if the weather stops cooling off it may come into bloom at the early end of that guess if it continues growing at the current rate. It shouldn't even be the plant to show scapes first. It's registered as an EM bloomer and there are several EEs and more Es along with a bunch of Ems and I'm not finding any scapes on those. Not only that, but in a way 'Tusk' is almost a rescue plant. It looked so sad the vendor refunded the price (I appreciated that but returned it). It did recover well last year, but still doesn't look as good as others growing. But a scape is a scape and the plant doesn't look bad now. Barring some kind of outside event, it will bloom first unless I'm looking a scape somewhere and just not seeing it.

Another scape emerging on 'Tusk'. That's three! The plant only has four fans. Really unexpected here. So far it's the only plant with any scapes that I have seen, but I think now there are about three seedlings that are working on making scapes. Can't know for sure until I see the bud capsule.
