No, Pat, I've had it from March 2013. It's foliage is still low so I'm surprised that it is scaping!

@taylordaylily...Karen thanks for the enabling. I just placed my order from Maryott's for Parrots of the Caribbean, Jessica Lynn Bell, Thomas Tew, Mineral Springs and Bright in the Night. Parrots was a BOGO, Mineral Springs and Bright in the Night are repeat orders as I loved the blooms last season. I've started receiving plants from the Lily Auction this week....getting excited!

@florange, post pics when you get blooms.

Arlene - Does Parrots of the Caribbean show rust resistant?

If rust learns to over winter in Ohio, I'm in big trouble. I'll have gardens of rust and more rust. I seem to like and own a lot of rust buckets. *Blush*

Karen - Luckily for you, rust is not a problem (yet .... and hopefully won't ever be) for all you Northerners who get cold winters. You are so lucky, as you probably can grow many more daylilies that look good during growing seasons. I think most daylilies have a problem with rust, so growing good looking foliage cultivars in the south is much more limited.

@kousa - I noticed yesterday afternoon that 'Big Snowbird" is producing THREE scapes! I sure wished there was another plant getting ready to bloom at the same time .... so I could do some hand-pollinating. Instead, I am going to have to try my hand at freezing pollen. Maybe I can get that to work this time. (Fingers crossed.)

I have only been looking a little for scapes, with over 400 prospects I thought that was too much time out of my day. I noticed a huge SF of Munson's Amber Lamp look like it was dividing into two. Closer inspection reveals... TA DA! I found this one Tues.

I found one on 'Tusk' today. I'm pretty sure there's another one coming on a seedling. The seedling is a single fan and is showing two growing points. When I've seen fans do this before it has always been a precursor to a scape. Seedlings may behave differently, though. It is a cross between an E X EE, so the parents are early ones. I hope it blooms. I need to thin out those seedlings nodding . It seems early to be seeing scapes. So far I can't detect any on those that have been the early bloomers. First time for 'Tusk' to try.

Rolling on the floor laughing Mayo! Mine better form scapes! I think your plant got confused this winter. I wonder if mine are going to be very much early. My records show my earliest bloom on May 13. I haven't timed how long it takes an emerging scape to grow a blooming bud, but seems like that would probably be around 3-5 weeks. I guess I could mark the two I've found and see how long. There was lots of warm weather in February, but March has been cooler. Still the fan growth has managed the late frosts without much/any damage, so the plants' growth is ahead of where they were at this time in the previous couple of years. Tomorrow is April, so 3-5 weeks before a scape has an open bloom doesn't put some things a lot earlier. I rather think all that extra time for growth on the fans will more likely result in more roots, more increase, and possibly more rebloom instead of starting bloom early. Just guessing. And that guess also depends on no disasters and being able to keep up with giving them supplemental water etc.
