GaNinFl,
Maybe I should put my 'Happy Returns' in a pot.

needrain,
I have not seen a slug in the bog so far this season, I did find a huge snail (might have been a predatory snail) and
I have found a few tiny snail. So far that is all, last season I battled slugs for a couple of months at least.

Larry I generally don't grow them in pots and am still a rookie by all means, but who's to say it might help it along. Shrug! I actually think your fans looked pretty good.

Just for info, I saw a whole rack of the Happy Returns CVs at the box store over the past weekend. I think it's pretty popular in landscapes along with little Stella de Oro.

Today I found a scape on a seedling. Can't believe it. Too early here in
this zone, and this is after a low of 24 degrees several days ago. I'm
very curious as to what the bloom will look like on this hardy little thing.

No scapes, that's for sure. Not sure any of my new plants will survive the rain:

I slipped one out of the slop yesterday and potted it. It looks like I should have done more. This new bed is definitely dreadful!

Oh my goodness, that is dreadful. I read about all the rain in Texas.
Sixteen inches in one day in one area.
Hope your plants survive. Group hug

Me, too, Shirlee! I pulled them all out and potted them, and I called the landscaper. He's sending guys tomorrow to add a lot more dirt and re-grade the bed. We will see what happens!

One year when we had heavy rain in our area, one of the local nurseries had a flooded daylily field. They used big pumps to pump out the water, and the daylilies all survived. So, fingers crossed for yours Crossing Fingers!

The daylilies would of course be a concern, but the water should not be sitting that close to the foundation of your house, the contractor might need to do some more grading.

I agree with Larry, You need to have your property regraded. The water will seep through the brick and cause a mold problem in your walls. You don't want that to happen it costs thousands of dollars to fix, I speak from experience.

True, true, Larry. I agree with you as well. There will be no planting near the house, and they graded down from the shrubs. I think all will be well. We're supposed to get rain tonight, and I hope to re-plant tomorrow. So far, only one flower looks dead. We shall see....

Had more scapes today, a couple very surprising being the plants were just recently planted.

Way good, Larry! Once you have a scape, how long do you think it will be before bloom time??

I am keeping better records of that this year, and it depends a lot of how far advanced the scape is when I finally discover it. For some with small blooms that develop really fast it has only been a few days. Others have been a few weeks, but I will know more after this season about how long it takes, I am thinking along the lines of three to five weeks...some may be longer.

Thanks for that, Larry, as it at least gives me some rough estimation. My Gilbert Wild that gave me a quick scape has seemed to do nothing since, but it's only been 2 weeks and it should be a large bloom if it was labeled correctly. I'm going hunting my patience hat!

I'm paying attention to how long it takes for a scape to bloom also.
Noticed more scapes today while watering the beds. I still can't
believe it, it's way too early, though it is only the seedlings with scapes.

I am seeing seedlings with scapes too. Only the one registered cultivar bloomed, all the others are just sitting there looking scapeless/bloomless. Glare
