I have to keep chips and bakery out of the house! When I go to the kids I seem to inhale sweet and salty. When the grandkids come over they want to know if I have any snacks I give them fresh fruit, etc. They then inform me they meant sweets and chips! So I give them popcorn Whistling Whistling

If I have donuts and ice cream here I would eat them. I try my best to keep those kinds of things out of the house.

Oh Ann, too thin!! I guess it is difficult with your gluten sensitivity to keep up with the higher calorie meals.

Have you thought of possibly adding a protein shake in the morning to pack in more calories? It is an easy (if not particularly tasty) way to add easy calories.

For instance I have both Whey and a goat's milk based protein powers. I also have ones based on plant proteins but not sure which of those would be safe for you.

I do smoothies when I can get around to it...no refined sugar added, just fruits and veggies. Some healthful veggies I'd never eat if they weren't added to the smoothies. Of course, I haven't had a problem with losing too much weight since I had that bacterial overgrowth in my small intestine a couple of years ago. DH has Gastritis, but not sure why yet.

Linda isn't it amazing how you can add fresh spinach to a smoothie with fruit and don't have a "spinach" taste! Even my DH tried it! Of course I love fresh spinach anyway, but good to try even if you don't!

Ann, you could also try some of the Ensure type drinks to get more calories. My DIL has used lots of them and even sticks them in the freezer to so it is more like a slurry and sometimes added ice cream she has a chronic disease where she is losing weight. Mayo clinic has tried many things to help her without much success, they even had used a very high calorie supplemental drink that was by perscription.

When my DH had to use them during his chemo treatment we found that Walgreens also carries a store brand that is not a costly, just watch for the high calorie don't recall the exact wording on the cartons of cans. Oh yeah they also have Ensure bars for a change of pace. Group hug Group hug Group hug

Thanks for all the suggestions you guys! I do appreciate it.
The problem is that I have found out I'm one of the "super sensitives" Sighing! Sighing! , something I never wanted to be. It means I react to the tiniest amount so all those things labeled gluten free still "get" me and boy I lose the weight FAST, so fast it makes your head spin. It takes me forever & ever to gain it back again.
I think this is payback for when I was a newbie & thought these people who said they were reacting to this & reacting to that were a little Whistling Whistling . I would sit here & Rolling my eyes. . So now I'm one of "those".
I'm now on a very strict diet for 3-6 months to heal. It's called the gluten elimination diet developed & tested by the world's leading celiac researchers/experts. No frozen or canned fruits/veggies - only fresh, only fresh meats & fish - nothing canned & nothing like ham or bacon, dairy is allowed but nothing flavored & only aged cheeses, oils okay, eggs too, unseasoned nuts in the shell, dried beans, plain vinegar, honey, salt, no other spices or herbs unless they are fresh, 100% fruit juice no sugar added, white or brown rice. I am allowed gluten free Ensure type products so I'm going to get some of that.
Cooking is going to take even more time now but I will survive.
I forget the exact figure but somewhere around 87% of those who adhere to this diet will be able to go back to eating a "regular" gluten free diet.

Ann, the "strict diet" sounds like quite a challenge... but if it helps you heal it will all be worth it!

But you could add protein powder to the smoothies and it would give you more calories. It seems like you need more calories.

Oh I see. too much chance of contamination. Bummer to have to be so strict but it is is what it is. Hope you can get back on the regular gluten free diet soon.

I need to pay better attention to eating more fresh foods. I try but lunch is the hardest. I don't think that early when I pack a lunch. Healthy choice steamer Frozen dinner and fresh fruit.

Ann, as much as I like nuts, and fresh veggies -- love them, really -- I'm afraid if I had to be on your diet I would degenerate into eating the "aged cheese" far to excess... Rolling my eyes.

Me too! I'm a big cheese-aholic! Of course, olive oil, avocados and the aged cheese sound like a good combo, at least to me.
