I'm so jealous of the beautiful hummingbirds you all are seeing and photographing I've tried all kinds of feeders, but the hummingbirds here have snubbed them all. Last year, I planted lots of salvia, firebush, pentas and firespike to draw them in, and did manage to see...one. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through your pictures.
Give it time Ibis. They will come. I started out with just 1 or 2 & now have many. Give it time.

I've been off the site for awhile - expect to be back after Spring planting.
Don't know if this has gone around here or not, but it's too good NOT to share:

Sure is tough to get good photos of the wee Hummers through the windows, but heres what I got anyway.
Rufous male and not too sure which female this is, she was very busy grooming and I think the green of tree makes her look greener then she should be.
This Rufous female sat in the Hawthorn tree right outside the backdoor for a good 2 hours, I took dozen of photos but will spare you and just show a few.
So cool, great shots! Not only did they get there, but they look so cute and fluffy!
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

Beautiful Margaret, beautiful! I love the shots you chose. The grooming shots are especially fascinating. The next to last 1 of the Rufous female makes you wonder how that tiny wing can be so powerful. Amazing!

Thank you Ann. They are so cute, the Rufous male has been doing his courting dive quite a bit this week, amazing how high they fly and then drop down, very impressive for sure.
My dh said he saw a male doing that here. I wasn't around at the time so i can only take his word for what he saw. He did see the female watching also.

Courting dive - I didn't know what they are doing! ...if you are talking about when they look as if they are swinging back and forth like a pendulum. Funny to watch.
