I have no idea what kind of hummingbird this is - and the photo won't be much help with identification. I'm just glad the hummers are here and that they seem to like the red salvia.

Charlotte, Hummers do indeed love Red Salvia. I grow the Lady in Red Variety and they love it. Nice photo!

GrammaChar, If that throat is as purple as it appears on my monitor, I'm guessing that is a male Black chinned hummer. Their range extends into Texas. The second choice would be a Lucifer, also in Texas

I was able to get a photo of one of the Hummers in my Duranta blossoms late this morning!

That looks like a female Black Chinned, or Anna's, or possibly a cross between the two. According to my local bird book, they are hybridizing.

I thought it was probably a Anna's as well, Carol. I did not know they were hybridizing.

Looks like male Black-chinned to me. But who knows? Usually Black-chinned are all I see this time of year where I live.

Okay, my tribe of hummers have increased quite a bit. The other day I was watching through the window when a bunch of hummers flew up, then more came up also! They were competing for the ports on the most popular feeder, with four feeding, then another four. And a few more on the other feeder.
They didn't seem to be at odds, none chased the others, they were cooperating (I think)! My camera needs some repair, but I tried to get photos. Their cooperative spirits didn't extend to my efforts, that was obvious. I love it when the pic doesn't seem to show any wing movement, as if the hummer is suspended in the air like the 2nd one.

I've always said they can fly like UFOs!

Nice shots! My crowd has petered out the last week or so. They must have either finished migrating, or postponed it due to the cool weather here. I still have the locals that stay all year though.

Yep! and he's doing too good a job of it. I'm going to have to dump and clean it long before it's empty. He thinks the birdbath/fountain is his too.

LOL! He's a cutie, even if he is mean.

There's been a recent spike in the number of hummingbirds. I think maybe the babies are leaving the nests and coming to the feeders.
