Your photo and mine seem similar to me -- but is the white around the beard on your authentic Long's Peak more diffuse and without the clear white lines my NOID has? Is that the difference you see? I'm trying to be sure because you know how it is trying to compare photos taken in different lighting and with different cameras.

Iris Hart. Your photo looks very different to me. Yours has distinct veining with alternating white and purple lines around the beard. The other is a diffuse lavender without the veining.

I don't have time to search right now...maybe later.

The color can be a matter of lighting, the specific camera, and the browser a person does the viewing with. You've probably noticed-- I think most people have -- that an iris can look blue in one light, purple in another, and even lavender or magenta. The clarity of the markings around the beard can be a matter of how clear the photo is -- which is why I asked Barbara what she remembered. The beard color is the same as far as I can tell. The description of the beard is whitish on the tip and yellow closer to the throat. The iris I have has distinct yellow coloring closer to the throat. You just can't see it that well in the photo.

So, that's what I am trying to figure out -- whether the differences in the photos are real or in fact the actual irises are exactly the same. Too bad someone else doesn't have one blooming right now. I don't see anything else in Nola's catalog that matches -- and they haven't answered my email. The other thing is, Long's Peak is close in alphabet to Midnight Magic. A lot of the hybridizers seem to keep irises in roughly alphabetical order on their land in order to help them find each one more easily.

Angie -- "Apricot Buff" is the name that I gave it to sort of describe it. I bought that Iris out of a lady's yard many, many years ago. She had nothing identified -- I had no idea there was anything wrong with that........... Shrug!

I do believe that it has been identified as Golden Russet. Smiling

All I had was noids. Had them for years. When I moved I dug them up and brought them to my new garden. I thought I was safe because everything I read said deer did not eat Iris. Well I did not know that groundhogs loved them now I only have one Iris left.

This is the only one I have left because I planted it in my front gardens and I guess the groundhog did not find it. I am happy because it was one my mom had in her garden and we called it the pass down Iris.

This is my Melted Butter NoID. I think it is probably Tennessee Gentleman that the vendor also carries.

The stitching on the falls looks right, the standards are a bit darker though.

It's not: Amigo's Guitar, Milestone, Gypsy Lullaby, Dutch Master and a few others that I've ordered or researched.. It's such a good grower and bloomer......

Might this be Deal or No Deal?

Deal or No Deal is only two years old. So it can't be that one. The form is off too as there is quite a bit of ruffling on the Falls that the NoID does not have.

Thank you Greg and Neal, I did buy Ominous Stranger from Schreiner's last year . Now hoping Schreiner's really sent the correct rhizome and hope it's going to bloom this year.

Ironically my NoID is growing right next to Instructor, so I can check that one off my list. And the plicata markings on the falls aren't right for Ominous Stranger. I compared it with my pics of Tennessee Gentleman, and that is the closest match (mine isn't blooming yet). Thanks by the way for sending me all three that aren't the NoID.

This one looks like Capt. Thunderbolt (on my wish list!) - but the beard
may not be right - too light? On closer examination the light beard has a bit of reddish color further back.
I think I'm going to call him "The Lieutenant"! Thanks to the iris gods.

It does look a lot like it, is the beard white all the way into the throat? CTB I think is orange inside on the beard.
