Karen, I have quite a bit of the old seed left. I checked my records and I had a 50% germination rate but it was sporadic. I can make up a couple of packs to put in the swap.

Val - Just wanted to tell you thanks for listing those texas bluebonnets. I was sitting outside this afternoon and oddly enough Rachale told me she would like to have some texas bluebonnets! I laughed and told her she had perfect timing. I just happened to know where I could get some. So Thanks! That made her day. Smiling

No problem Karen. They are pretty neat. Unfortunately I planted them in the same bed as the petunias. They held their own for a bit but then got swamped. I do think they are more of a Spring flower but I could be wrong.

I also found a pack of unopened commercial tiger lily seeds that I'll never use. Would anyone like me to list them? Seeds are from 2015.

Awhile back several mentioned garlic. I couldn't include them in the swap because I won't be getting them until late September.....but I have garlic coming from two different companies. Here are the varieties I have ordered - Ajo Rojo, Texas Rose, Burgundy, Blanco Pacenza, Loroz Italian, & Rose Du Lautrec. I think its growinggourmetgarlic.com that has good descriptions on the variety, growing, etc. This is our first time to try garlic. I joined a group on Facebook & those don't have high opinions on the garlic you get from the grocery store.

Yes, I was shocked to read thatapparently the big garlic farms have been sold out to China. My husband wants to only eat what we grow or raise ourselves. I have told him repeatedly I am not butchering, etc. an animal.

well Kathy your in the right place to take it on , You and your spouse live in the state that has a long tradition of Original Melons , the First Black Tomato , The best Orange tomato , and the Bowie Knife , Arkansas Tooth pick , The metal worker who built that for David Bowie was from Arkansas

Really from the Midwest I supposedly am , We take on about everything , we answered that with Gatling Guns to Hot rods .. and the leader of the Wild Bunch was supposedly from Indiana ,, another midwest argument , Missouri Had Jesse James from Missouri , But the First train robbery was near Evansville Indiana A little east of there ,,
Lots of tradition of Do it Yourself , Why? poisons and too many orders ,
Well a rambling thing I am , All things being better (food) when you make it yours ,, and it is not as expensive as robbing Banks and Trains , yes I am ,, that way .. Smiling

Thanks Karenhokt@ and Jim, I got the bread poppies you posted. This is a fun little swap. I see that there is no basil being shared, I definitely could collect some basil seed. Would lettuce leaf basil appeal to anyone here?
Also I collected done salmon sunset four o'clocks and just added them to the swap.

GOOD morning all, I guess I missed alot of conversation last night! LOL!

Jim, When you say your baptisia hasn't made it to maturity, you mean flowering? I have kept mine in pots over winter, and planted them this year. It will be interesting to see what they do. I have one I actually bought as a starter plant and something (bunny?) ATE it this spring. However it is coming back, but is only about 6" tall. The others I WS'd are twice that, but no flowers, etc. I must say that where they are planted (tho I have amended the soil) is not the best in my yard. I amend as I plant and then use compost/leaf mulch. I'm working on it.

Glad to hear you are not going anywhere :D

Karen, that is SO funny! Last night after I bid on my seeds here, I looked at the full trade list which also shows mine. I said 'oh, guess no one wants those bluebonnets'! LOL!

SC, I would LOVE some lettuce leaf basil! I LOVE basil and using fresh! :D
Have been wanting to try the lettuce leaf basil but have not yet

Kathy,
I bid on Jim's garlic...want to plant for the first time, so it will be an "experience" for me. Jim, if you have any tips for newbie garlic growers, let me know.

Cheryl, that stinks..so sorry you list so much of your crop. What do you do with all your mint?

Really enjoying this swap and chatting you all!
Val

I also called dibs on Jim's garlic so he had more than one? I guess I wasn't paying attention!!! This is my first year to grow garlic. I am a complete newbie. I don't know how to plant, harvest, cure, store, etc. I am trying to get to the library to see if they have a recommended book (Growing Great Garlic - Ron Engeland). If its what I need, I'll buy it. (Nothing worse than buying a book you need for information & all it has is pretty pictures). My soil is mostly clay & since my tiller hasn't been fixed, my idea is to make beds with cinder blocks. My plan is to lay cardboard down & throw in potting soil, compost, etc. There's a lady that runs a rabbit rehibilitation/education/santuary/rescue about 45 minutes from here that says she'll sell me some bags of her compost loaded with rabbit poo. She uses the money for her rescue & to print booklets she hands out at events to educate people before they get little Timmy a bunny for Easter. But I digress. I did learn that because my summers are hot & humid, & my winters are usually mild, I need to stick my garlic seed in the refrigerator (NOT the freezer) for about 2 months. During this time I will be amending my beds & letting everything age more. I ordered garlic from two places - Filaree Garlic & Forever Yong Farms (which says their garlic is good for southern states). I have read that Creoles & softnecks do best here. (I'm originally from Louisiana so I like "dem Creoles"). But I digress. Again. I wrote this down off of the garlic group but can't remember which grower said it.

"When garlic beds are ready, take cloves & soak cloves in water with 1 tablespoon baking soda & liquid seaweed per gallon to protect from fungus as well as give them an energy boost. Soak for 16-24 hours.
Soak cloves in rubbing alcohol or 100 proof vodka 3-4 minutes then plant immediately to kill any mites, other pests, & any pathogens the first soaking missed."

I may try this on half just to compare. Where would I get liquid seaweed????

OMG I never soaked garlic in anything. I grew ojo rojo a creole last year. No soaking. Plant in fall around October when nights cool down. And then harvest when about half the leaves turn yellow in May/June.
I'm in zone 7b and you are a little warmer so I guess the chilling may be necessary.
