Val, that makes total sense to grow your dahlias in containers to keep from digging them up. I suppose after this year, I'm done with containers. The way my house gets sun is too much for the containers when we have 2 months of 115 degree heat indexes, lol. Poor little mites, they just can't stand up to that kind of heat. But they did well while they could. Who knows, by the end of winter, I will probably change my mind again.

I don't think I'll do as much ws'ing. Simply because mine turned out no different than had I waited to sow. There are some things that I'll do again. Petunias, the lily of the niles I just got from Erica, Val's foxgloves (which mine actually did good for a 1st year wintersowing), I'm on the fence about the snapdragons. They were a 50-50 type deal this year. And I really want a larger patch of both the night and day's and the black princes. I don't think I'll have a problem with my Aroma Red Spice snaps. And speaking of snaps.... Elena! I thought I lost my frosted sunsets that I got from you last swap. This morning I did my ritual and lo and behold, frosted sunsets that are still alive! I have about 6 weeks left before first frost. Hopefully, that is enough time to get at least one of them blooming. I had managed to get 3 plants out of the sowing this year so I'm really happy that at least 2 survived the heat.

Buttercup, I did list the breadseed poppies for you. If you do not get them, please let me know and we can always do another trade between us. I put one up and I kept one in the event you didn't get it. Note to elena and dnd... THAT is my spock side and my teddy bear side in action. Hilarious!

Karen, I think you'll get the frosted Sunset snaps to bloom. And when the temps are cooler the variegation on the leaves should show up.

Just added two packs of Ageratum Hawaii blue. Also two packs of Dianthus. I figured out they were the cottage doubles not the Victoriana. They didn't bloom for me the first year but did really well this year. Unfortunately the flowers were single but that may have been due to the drought?

I also added one pack of red Salpiglossis that I collected.

Its SO HARD to control oneself WS'ing, isnt it!? YOu do a bunch of containers one week and they dont really take THAT much room, but come May/June when it's plant out time..WOw! I said I was going to cut back this year, and I think I ended up with MORE than the year before (which was over 80 containers). This year I used Tin roaster pans, I find them easier to work with, and more room Smiling

I need to learn to do "moderate". I have a hard time doing that! LOL!

Hope everyone's getting some goodies they really want.

bxn, thanks for the heads up on the additions :D

See you all in a couple hours!

This is a Wild Radish , May be perennial here , I am hesitating about moving the plant , The roots have gone through the pot and the leaves are growing again , more seeds and blooms if a long fall happens .. these from blooms this spring ,
I have one stalk of red Mizuna the rabbits did not take so far , so I may try regrowing those also ,

Elena, I saw you got the dancing girls zinnias. I wanted to let you know those are not elegans. They are either profusions or zahara's. Burpee has not let us know. I don't know why it's listed as an elegans here. If you don't want them, I understand. But they really are sweet little flowers and I think it fits your needs.

Karen to be honest I never even looked at the species. I don't know one zinnia species from the next! I just liked the flowers. I don't have any that look like that. I've grown both the tall and short ones so either way I'm happy to get them. And so are the neighborhood bees!

i added a few seeds from an Asian Pear tree , I have heard the seeds grow as everything from a scraggly bush to a giant tree so obviously they would be experimental to play with , Warmer or colder zone is also a Question ,
Southern Giant Mustard a few seeds added ,
I am being a not so organized recently ..

I have some really too old seeds now , I will try winter sowing a few , If I get new ones They will be offered in future ( My imagining forward taking place ) The reason their too old , cats got them , or other critters , or they did not do well enough to make seeds ,
Happens ,, Every other season or so , I offer a few cucumbers , not always true growers either .

Jim I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as too old seed. Mislabeled, yes. Not happy with weather, site, insects yes. But too old, never!

This year I tried out some REALLY old seed to decide whether it was finally time to toss them. Here's the result.

Nolana paradoxa, Blue Bird. Seed from 1997. Too bad I wasn't quick enough to get seed. D'Oh!

Elena I collected some pinkish purple Giant Zinnia seeds today , I consider some things old seeds , But some 8 or 9 year old Baptisia seeds grew for me once , I failed to get them to maturity ,
My conclusion is my often low germination rates from my own is my fail to do something ..

That is one pretty Blue Flower

Jim,
Have you tried wintersowing baptisia? I was lucky to get 4-5 of them to grow last year. That was my first time planting them, also.

Bxn, that blue flower is VERY pretty! It's interesting to try older seeds, and I think if they have been stored well, there is not much of a problem, but I think that when trading, I prefer a more recent seed, just to be sure :D

Looking forward to tonight, again....

Elena, that flower is just precious. So sad you couldn't save seed. I do like old flowers like that. I guess that's why the age of the seed does not bother me at all. I do know others prefer fresher seed just for higher germination rates. I understand that, but I do like taking chances on older seeds to see what they are going to produce. I have the perfect spot for that flower. Sad
