I'm sitting here being super chill since tomorrow is the big Orchid Field Trip over in Orlando. You know I'll be photographing birds and butterflies, too. It's also raining outside which means I don't have to drag the hoses around. Come to think of it, the sprinklers went off this morning, too.
I was gazing out the window at my birdfeeder a while ago and the squirrel was sitting underneath it. I saw him hop into my Parsley Hawthorne and I knew he was going for it. He climbed up the pole, got on the birdfeeder, but seemed to have trouble holding on. He sort of slid down back into the Hawthorne. He tried again, and slipped down to the ground where he stayed. I asked Mom if she had sprayed the pole with Pam again, and she cheerfully told me this time she used Crisco!
I told her it was working! And what's good is that she did it a couple of days ago which means it didn't effect the Blue Jay I saw yesterday.
Blue Jay sat on top of the Shepard's Hook for a bit, then settled for the seeds on the ground. It was calling while it was on top of the hook. Made me wonder if he was ringing the dinner bell.
Right before the rain started, I saw an Ibis wandering through the backyard. Soon enough, it's friend came and joined it. I rarely see an Ibis alone. The one flew across the street to my neighbor's yard while the other just walked across. I was in my bare feet and the concrete is pretty hot so I can't blame the one who flew over the asphalt. That's a smart bird.
