I am happy to report that we have baby Mountain chickadees, the parents are very busy from dawn to dusk, I haven't seen them yet, maybe soon one will poke it's little head out. We also have a second family of House Wrens building a nest in the box beside the other nesting Wrens, there was quite a battle but the new comers would not back down and have been busy nest building the past few days. I got some interesting photos that I will post hopefully sometime soon. Saw a pair of Tree Swallows mating this morning, I think both boxes over the garage are occupied.
As we were expecting TS Colin yesterday I went out to check the shed door. It's warped or something & doesn't close real well at the top & bottom so I wanted to put a concrete block at the bottom to help keep it from flying open should the latch not hold. As I approached I saw mama & papa Carolina Wren flying out from the opening in the top of the door. Still raising babies in there then. I wish I'd had time to go back & get the camera & do some snooping in there & take photos but I didn't. Hopefully soon. Maybe today if I have energy after putting everything back to rights from yesterday's TS preparations.

There was a ton of activity around the suet feeders yesterday, as even the birds were preparing for TS Colin. At one point I think there were at least 5 or 6 of the (young?) woodpeckers around the feeders.
Also, a Red-Winged Blackbird and a friend
And a Titmouse (I think), although I wonder if it's a Grey Catbird? The tail seems too long for a Titmouse.
Cute, cute, cute pics of the baby WP's Ibis. That is a tufted titmouse & not a catbird. Catbirds don't have crests & you can clearly see the laid down crest on the bird in question plus you can see that black marking around the upper beak that is typical of Tufted Titmice.

Nice pictures, all. Kurt your titmouse must be a baby? Mine are grey and white with yellow bars down the breast. The catbirds are so graceful, but they never seem to cock their tails up like the titmice do, either.

this is a baby pic , staying very late in the evening , trying to eat crumbs and definitely not jumping around and hard to shoot like the adults

inquisitively , to long ago to remember exactly what it was but may be a reflection in the french door or seed on the patio , I am fairly sure I baited it with seed to lure it closer.

Sorry for the wall of photos I'm about to post folks but I just can't decide on 2 or 3.
It's the season when all the juvie bluebirds from this years different clutches gather together in one big flock. They are so cute! Scared & learning how to go on in the great big world, ones from the first clutches are maturing & think they're hot stuff. There are still clutches being raised in the nests yet. Moms & dads are busy taking care of babies. The birdbath gets to be like Grand Central Station and I go out around 3 times a day to refill it -- still it often isn't enough and it's dry before nightfall.
An adult male is in the right rear of this one. The rest are juvies.
Adult male alone
Splish splash, he's taking a bath
He's getting fed up with these young upstarts who keep interrupting
The kids finally get a chance to bathe
Say cheese!
A mature male is bathing. If you click through the photos quickly, it's almost like watching a film. Watch the tableau unfold..
