The new wildlife camera really got some good pics this morning.
I usually get lots of bird pics and a few pics of the wind, but this morning was special.
These are the best out of 100+ pics.

Dee, you don't have Blue jays in CA. I think that's a Western Scrub Jay.
Great pics!

There are bird photos and then , there is this , was learning to fly and someone got a hold of baby Robin ,
left wing feathers are hardly there, baby robin did take a worm from me and is roosting tonight , maybe the feathers will heal and I can set baby robin free to fly .

Awe, Jim, how wonderful of you to save the little bird. Lovey dubby I've seen an injure bird or two and very often they do heal, sometimes miraculously! Do you know where the parents are? If possible, you might try to put it outside, out of reach of predators. Once it's strong enough, it will fly away.

Hopefullly someone else will know better what to do and how to care for the little bird until its healed. Smiling

Oh what a cute little baby bird. I hope he makes it. They aren't always easy to save.

We have had sooo many quail this year. We counted 30 in one group! The babies are so funny, they look like ping pong balls with feathers glued on them.

I guess I'm going to have to get bird literate to hang out with this group. Yes, they are scrub jays, we don't get a lot of them, thank goodness, they're kinda bossy.
We have also had a lot of doves and even some pigeons this year. That's a new one for my garden. They just hang out in the open and make lots of noise, they won't last long with all the hawks and owls out here.

Here's a link to an article on how to feed/save injured fledglings. Some interesting stuff there - I didn't know you should never put water in a bird's mouth, for example!

@DomehomeDee
that wildlife camera takes really good pictures...nice birds, nice bunnies

I wasn't aware baby birds could be rescued, I always thought they were goners if they left nest early...that's pretty cool, take some patience to accomplish. Are you going to give it a go Jim?

Jim, you could look into an wildlife rehabber in your area. They can take the robin and give it to a bird specialist.

Jim, there are some wildlife rescue orgs. that will take your little robin. I believe these are in your area?
http://www.providencewildlife....
http://www.wildcatwildlifecent...

If those 2 don't work out then check this list:
http://wildlife.rescueshelter....
There is a long, long list and they state what county they are in.

We raised a baby mockingbird once. Let me tell you, it was darn near a full time job!!! Those little suckers eat almost continually!!!! That was over 20 years ago when I was much younger & it wore me out!! I will not do it again.
When I was about 8 yrs. old, my dad brought home a baby sparrow that had fallen out of a nest at his work. The company nurses rescued it & brought it to my dad as they knew he was a softie. He brought it home & the whole family raised it. Fed it ground beef from an eye dropper. When dad brought it home, it didn't even have down much less feathers. It's a wonder it lived! It did live, & grow up & the crowning glory was that one day it flew away. It was supposed to be that way & we all rejoiced. I remember that was a whole lot of work too but there were 5 of us to take care of him/her at the time.

flaflwrgrl I will keep those links ,, I gave the bird to someone with more experience ,
It had more serious injuries than i could , or had the time to do anything about .
I am sure in the future a few more will give me more chances ,
i forgot the story about the baby Hawk I set there all day protecting from dogs , cats and various predetors , But one day of concern , does not apply to all day hours of effort ..

Earlier the Quail talk had my memory and interest ,, use to raise those a while , Pheasant get Black foot disease ? here , Have had a few ,
When I had the space and was there , pigeons and doves were more my thing , not to eat , only to have as pets , easier for me they were ,

I'm glad someone with more experience has it now Jim. I'm certainly no expert but it sort of looked like it might have had some "blood feathers" on that left wing. I only know blood feathers can be extremely serious by a friend who had a Cockatoo.

Love the Vulture pics. We have lots of Vultures here and I enjoy seeing them, just because they are so large. There was one flying near my house last week that had two red tailed hawks harassing it. It was probably getting to close to their nest. They were chasing it around in the air and attacking it.
