Hope you don't mind a man sticking his nose in. Some nice roses today so I took a few pictures.
Marilyn Monroe...not the most exciting color but great form and it lasts.

Peace...what more needs to be said?

Common Wealth Glory....varies from spring to fall but always pretty.

Thumb of 2011-10-16/Paul2032/76f1a1 Gemini...darker fall color. Cool weather?

Gorgeous, Paul. Perfect photos of perfect rose blooms!

I love all of those roses and my only complaint about Marilyn Monroe is that it's too vigorous (if that can be called a complaint). It has grown so tall that all of the blooms are above my head, and I can't photograph them unless I cut them off the rose bush. I guess I could stand on a ladder, but there's no room for ladders between my roses. Smiling

Ha, stick in all the beautiful rose pictures that you have Smiling Really pretty, especially Gemini. I don't know why I don't have that rose as I always love it.

I have been adding comments and really trying to get them to be useful. Just added a batch more just now. My brain must be going to mush though as I think my last comment was not that helpful but more of the I like this one variety Shrug!

Here's another way to earn acorns and build up the database. Chelle's adding photos of rose hips, buds, leaves, and canes, so if you've already added photos of all your roses, start adding their hips, buds, leaves, and canes. They all contribute to our knowledge of a plant.

When you add rose hips, please check the "fruit" option for the photo gallery. I know they could also be categorized as seeds and seed pods, but for the sake of uniformity, let's call them "fruit" the way Chelle has. That way, a search for rose fruit will bring up all of the photos of hips when our search engine gets really sophisticated and starts zeroing in on every detail.

You'll get an acorn for your first entry in each gallery for each plant. In other words, if you post photos of a 'Peace' bloom, the entire plant, the leaves, the canes, and the buds, you'll earn five acorns. If you post five photos of 'Peace' blooms, you'll earn only one acorn. Of course, you'll earn our undying appreciation for those extra four photos of 'Peace' blooms, but they won't add to your acorn stash.

Marilyn Monroe is vigorous but also one of the most thorny bushes I have. A terror to prune or cut for the house.

It's late in the year here and I should have taken pictures of buds and leaves and such much earlier in the year. Of course before the rose database here I had no reason to take pictures of much of anything other than blooms. I don't have much in the way of rose hips. The light is fading now but if it is nice tomorrow I will try to get what pictures I can. Thanks for the great idea! Big Grin Thumbs up

I just read your latest comments, Rita. They're highly informative and full of friendly advice. I didn't see any that weren't helpful.

Porkpal's comments are really good too.

I had to write my own comment on Robusta after reading Porkpal's comment on Robusta. I couldn't figgure out what one was supposed to write in the subject line in the respond to comment as I have never done a respond to comment. So I just made a new comment.

Just a tip to increase your chances of getting an acorn for a shorter comment, add a signature to each post. It gives valuable information if you include your zone and area of the country. For instance I say it is humid here on Long Island. And of course humid means a big difference in the desease resistance of roses.

Interesting thing about longer comments automatically getting acorns. I didn't know that. My comments tend to be very terse. It's just the way I am. But no matter, I haven't commented much yet. I'm saving that for the winter when I'm stuck indoors.

If you want an example. All my rose comments today got acorns except for the one about Citrus Splash. Too short. I knew it was too short when I wrote it but that's all I had to say there.

I noticed there was no picture of Kathleen so I went out to get a shot of mine - 4 times! The first time I started taking pictures of other roses on the way and ran out of battery, the second time the wind came up and everything was moving too much, then I got side tracked by a loose cow, and finally I started down the fence line photographing any roses that looked better than usual and ran out of space or whatever in the camera! Now it is getting too dim and tomorrow she may be past her prime. But I am trying! I guess it only just registered with me that the data base is a group effort.

We have a few men here.. All we ask here is that you show us pictures of purdy roses and you're one of us!! Caring for roses is gender-neutral. Make sure you add 'em to the database!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Speaking of which, has anyone heard from Alan in AZ? Haven't heard from him in a while. Hope he Is ok!!

Yes ! We need to even out the ratio of Estrogen and Testosterone in this forum !
I howled at porkpals comment about getting sidetracked by a loose cow while taking pictures ! I usually get sidetracked by flocks of those intimidating black crows.

What do we (ultimately) do with our collection of acorns? Are they redeemable for the cool stuff we used to get for S and H Green Stamps and/or Blue Chip Stamps ? I could really use a good gold plastic roccoco mirror...or a new toaster.

Anyone here grow "Queen of Sweden" ? My DS bought me one and is bringing it down here soon. I hope it does well in coastal conditions and is disease resistant. She paid THIRTY FIVE bucks for it in a 5g container. That's highway robbery ! If this rose doesn't do well I'll never hear the end of it.

Would you be interested in ATP t-shirts and mugs? That's what you can buy with them. Get going with adding pictures or comments to the database, any plant, doesn't have to be roses!

I've seen Alan in AZ posting in the All Things Gardening Forum, Toni, so I'm sure he's okay.

Queen of Sweden's supposed to be a wonderful rose, JD.

Prospero has always been one of my least favorite Austin roses. The blooms aren't big enough for my taste, the bush doesn't bloom enough for my taste, and the color has never excited me. It's supposed to be dark red, but it's always more bluish, but not the exciting bluish dark-red color of Tradescant.

Suddenly, though, it started doing this two-tone thing, and I love it! It's so garish!

I barely see my cats in October. They run in to eat and then run back outside. Almost all of them sleep outside all night too. They must sense that this is the last of the good weather. Here are Jasper and Montgomery napping on the back deck. Monty had also been sleeping in a plant container (the one that used to be on that now-empty plant stand), but he turned abruptly, fell out, and broke the plant and the pot. Of course, all of the plants in that grouping are showing the ill effects of feline abundance.

Here are Pepplegoose and Chantilly on the same deck.

He does like to be outside this weather.

Wow, a chauffeur cat! Hilarious! I don't know whether any of mine can drive. I don't have any vehicles. Three of mine do use the toilet for the right purpose, however.
