Thanks for the kind words. Actually my camera is an old Canon Rebel XSi 450D...I do have some nice lens and a good measure of patience though. The Blue Jay photo was taken with my Sigma 50-500mm @ 500mm focal length. I didn't enter any photos in the contest, I don't care for contest and such, I just enjoy taking photos and sharing what I see through the lens. Thanks again to you and all the others here for the kind words, acorns and thumbs. Thank You!

These are pretty, but would the paint not block the stomata and suffocate the plant? Blinking

That is what I thought. The spray paint would not come off without damaging the outer part of the leaf. The paint did not come off the ceramic pot when I tried to scrape it off with my nail so it will suffocate eventually. Showed it to another customer and he said that it was horrible to do that to the plant. I agreed. There was no one around to ask what kind of paint was used. Definitely not washable.

They also dip Amaryllis bulbs in colored/glitter wax for Christmas. They are pretty, and popular right now, but it kills the bulb. If you are diligent, you can remove the wax, damaging the bulb, but the bulb can survive. But I would never buy one, no matter how pretty. You would think that with those succulents they could find something to spray them with that would not kill them -- a light glitter spray in a beneficial oil/soap or something like that.

I agree with you Christie. There are paints that wash off so that the plant is not harmed. At least those awful green and purple colored orchids are not harmed that we see at the gardening centers. We used food coloring on our carnations as a youngster and not a flower was not harmed in the coloring.
Will look for different photo to add.

Spray paint is dangerous for us also. Because of the rain I went to see what different plants were available. I never knew that poinsettias had different varieties. The photos show some of the natural beauty of plants with our trying to make them better than they were created. I never saw brushed or marbled poinsettias before. Maybe I don't get out enough. Was told that there are many varieties. The florist only had a small space for a few.

Yeah, you would think they could come up with a better way to do it - even a food coloring spray might work. I bet if you gave that decorating task to a gardener, they could come up with a better way. Hmmm, that might be a good Science Fair project for some 7th grader.
