Pleurothallis canaligera got pushed behind another orchid. Found her today. Lots of buds and some at the bottom are open. This is a little guy. Blooms are 1/4" and the mount is only 2" across. That's why she can get lost.

I go away for a weekend and I'm 4 pages behind! I hope I'm not jumping into the middle of a conversation...

I spent last week mucking out the greenhouse for our annual Orchid Society Greenhouse Tour. I was pleasantly surprised to see a couple orchids in bloom.

I ran out of Algicide so used 409 and a scrub brush on the floor. Who'd a thought? Kills algae and mealy bugs.

Daisy, love those flowers and that greenhouse. Really nice for the space. Mine space is just a little wider than yours. Have to consider something like you did.

Ted, you need to put a tall fluorescent flag on that one..so it doesn't get lost out there in the back 40!
Prabhi, your Catasetum hybrid is beautiful and what a gorgeous photo....love the old painted wood..it really shows off the great colors , 4 spikes...AND the delicious scent of vanilla and clove...I would be shouting about that! Nicely done!
Have you changed locations? or am I just confused?...for some reason I thought you were in Indonesia..but now you are on the beautiful island of Trinidad?

This 'Ching Hua' has absolutely amazed me with all the different looks that the bloom has gone through.
This was July 31st.

Notice the stem...The bloom is not to be much longer, but my, how I have enjoyed it.

I SO wish I had my sister get one of those ' Ching Hua' plants for me when she saw them at her HomeDepot in Miami...
It is stunning , in all it's stages! and now...I MUST HAVE ONE!!!!

My goodness, Tara. That's almost amazing. I just shipped out a mounted Ching Hua, along with six other mounted orchids. I have yet to see the Ching Hua bloom but I have several, so I am hopeful.

It is almost amazing, isn't it!?!? I've never seen blooms take on so many different personalities!
Thanks Ken, for what you said about the 'Emerald Isle'. I got this one from you back in 2014, and it had a bud on it when I got it. It was simply gorgeous, and now it's good to know that I've not done anything wrong with it. My heart kind of sank when I saw these 2 that "look" empty. I'll be patiently anticipating whats to come!

Lindsey, this is a "rescue" that I snagged from Lowe's "death rack" in Dec. 2013. Keep your eye out for it!

Tara, that really is an absolutely wonderful range of colors you had on 'Ching Hua'. If I hadn't had to move all my Cattleyas in under the overhang this morning, I'd be thinking about some new ones. But they are my most disease prone plants, so I'm going to see if my new spray regime, and keeping them dry when it rains a lot will work to prevent that, before I buy any more.

The Vandas are loving all this rain, though. We've had a couple of inches between last night and today. More to come, it looks like. Great news too - I just checked the NOAA maps for water temperatures in the Gulf and they have dropped between 4 and 6 degrees in the last week, from all the cloud cover and rain/storms. It's decidedly pleasant and (dare I say it?) cool outside even now. "Cool" is an unused word at this time of year here.

Is there any predictions that the "system" will become a tropical storm or develop into something different than just a low with gobs of rain?

So far only the weather liars have mentioned that idea. It's just supposed to blunder around and rain on us through the end of the week. I'm sure they're "keeping an eye" on it but so far no rotation and no winds above about 20mph.

Heavy rain, day-after-day is bad enough, but certainly nothing like..............well, you know. I won't even mention the word.
