I love this time of the year!!! Most of mine are up, and several have unfurled already! I'm heading out to try and get the last big bed cleared of leaves, and then fertilize! My back is sore, but worth it!

My Sagae were only an inch tall last weekend. Now, they're at least 9 inches!

Everything is popping up and looking very healthy and strong. Some of the Lancifolia that were up before the freeze are looking kind of ratty, but new growth is already appearing.

Lancifolia is always my first up and the rabbits always immediately eat them to the ground. I sprayed them this week so they can recover. I use Lancifolia in my bulb garden to hide the bulb leaves after flowering.

Lancifolia is the entree of last resort here. The deer and rabbits go for the more expensive varieties first.

Yep, Lancifolia is great for hiding spent bulb greens. We also use it to soften the edges of the rock walls.

@RickM
Because Lancifolia are the first to come up they eat them first. They will get to the expensive ones when they come up if I do not spray. Hilarious!

Ok all you Hosta Veterans I need help with an identification if possible. Today I went to Lowe's and took a peek at the Hosta table. They had:
Stained Glass
Fortunately Aureomarginsta
Francee
Frances Williams.

Rightin the middle of the F. Aureomarginata was this glossy golden margined Hosta was glowing... It was tagged F.A but I knew it was not .F.A.
The leaves are a thicker substance and almost a glossy wax finish. The petioles are speckled with a red blush. It has a vase shape growth.

I wondered if it might be Montana Aureomarginata so I snatched it up at the price of 7 dollars. It has 12 divisions in the pot.

A beautiful specimen!!!

I also purchased this 'Stained Glass' because of the sheer thick size of the lead division. (1 1/2 inch thick) It was $7. The pot had a total of 6 divisions 3 of the divisions are quiet small.

The shiny leaves remind me of Queen Josephine but that is a wild guess. Monday I will go to the two Lowe's in my area and do a little investigating......Good excuse to visit a garden center....thanks.

The picture of the plant next to Stained Glass makes me a little more certain that it is Queen Josephine....

Yes... might be Queen Josephine. This is what the Hosta looks like. It glows when among other plants.

I got tired of working in the garden so I took a ride to one of the Lowe's in my area. They had one cultivar of Hosta for sale.........SO SWEET.....I am pretty sure that is the ID on your mystery purchase. I bought one. I didn't need it but the plant had several leaves that were a different color pattern. Maybe a sport? I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Your probably right again. Queen Josephine is said to grow 17" tall. The one I bought is already that tall but Hosta 'So Sweet' is also a shiny Hosta that grows 27" tall (which I think mine will). S. S. grows in a Vase Shape and has Chartreuse streaks inside the dark green. So does mine.

I hope I can still come see your garden this spring. I'll watch for your pics tomorrow

I have a concern now about the ID. Most pictures of mature SO SWEET have a far narrower border. Maybe that happens as the plant matures. Shrug!

The margines on this Hosta appear to get wider on the more mature leaves and divisions not smaller. The red spotted stems is what I think will help give us the answer. It's radiant and looks more deep green and glossy than the photos of 'So Sweet' at NH Hosta. The grower definitely tagged it wrong when it shipped. It's divine though... Lovey dubby

. Shrug!

I agree it does not look like so sweet. It looks like it is to dark So Sweet is a lighter green.

I believe this Hosta is young and not full grown. I believe it will be a big one. Here are the leaves compared to my hand. Also a closer pic of those pink speckled stems.

The inside cupped part of the petiole is a chartreuse green all the way down. The red specks are only on the outside part of the petiole.
