I spoke with NH Hosta. They told me they have a 'Firn Line' Hosta true to variety for me. Stock is very low on some varieties so they are not offering them online to the public to prevent over selling. He is going to put my name on them and send them to me in the Spring. (Even though it's ok to plant them now)

In the mean time I will choose what I want to add to the order.

❤️❤️❤️❤️🌺

Some of my hosta are still nice and green, while others have already disappeared.

Here is a closer look at the yellow leaves of 'Jewel of the Nile'. Jewel was one of the Hosta that was torn and shredded the very worst from the large hail stone storm that thundered through earlier this fall. Perhaps the shredded damaged leaves are making 'J of the N' look worse than normal?

I pray this is the same for mine. 😉😉😊.

I have noticed that the Hosta which have thinner leaf substance and are yellowing the quickest are on the now full shaded NORTHERN side of the house.

It has gently snowed a couple of times. Just rain turning to flakes but not yet cold enough for the snow to stay once it touches the ground. It melts immediately but never the less... The frosty flakes have kissed the Hosta leaves...🌺😉

The thinnest ones are going to sleep I think.

They are doing just fine. Some do the Fall leaf coloring thing and some will be green until they freeze. I have over 400 hosta and right now the main gardens look very Fall-like. Lots of orange gold and yellow. You have a nice collection started!

Here is an image of Great Expectations fall colors. As the tiny liners that came from The Hosta Farm continue to increase I believe one of the plugs is "Great Expectations."

It's on their need to get rid of list and I see the veins and margine pattern beginning to appear.

Great! just put 'em in some good dirt and they will most likely double or triple by this time next year.

I'm getting ready to dig up a bunch this week to replace the soil with something a bit more agreeable to growing things.

The Hosta don't seem to mind the Autumn afternoon sun. They are not burning. The cool temps are putting them to sleep though.

This has been an interesting fall for me, I had always associated the yellowing leaves of the hostas and probably all other plants with falling temps. This fall we have only had one near frost event, but it did not happen; overall the temps have been extremely moderate. I'm thinking the leaves turning has more to do with photoperiod vs falling temps. Probably the falling temps accelerate the process. Its been a very unusual fall for my part of Minnesota.

What does it mean in the big scheme of things, probably nothing, I was just surprised I had not known this, or I did know and have forgotten it. : ))))

Next question:

What are the chances of my Hosta surviving the winter without rotting since this is their first year?

If they are mulched and have moisture going into the winter they should be fine, Hostas are pretty indestructible.
