The other two Hosta I ordered look correct at this moment... They didn't get any of my messages asking to change the order. Not sure how to feel yet. Sighing!

At least I got something. My main hope was 'Firn Line'. I'm worried I didn't get it.

This sight is running so slow for me now that the changes are here it's hard to navigate. It takes about 1.5 minutes to go to a new page. Also the 'Like' button is not working well for me. I have to touch it several times before it responds. Maybe it's just slow.

All the information I have read on Firn Line says it emerges blue with a thick yellow margine that turns white...

These leaves are not blue with a yellow margine. They are golden with pure white centers. My hope just died.... I have no reason to believe they would respond if I emailed them.

So I emailed them about the error. I suppose I should pot this plant and wait for a reply. πŸ‘πŸ».

I emailed Richard at NH Hosta to ask him his opinion on whether or not this Hosta is 'Firn Line'. I feel so much better after Richard has responded... Here is what he told me.

"Betsy,

It looks like it is light deprived. Did it arrive bare root?

They probably had it in a cold storage area to try and keep it dormant.

I would keep it away from direct sunlight at the beginning. Plant it in a container and keep it in a filtered light area until the colors come back to the plant.

Only after it gets its colors back can we determine what hosta it is.

Thank you! "

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Now I'm excited again! And Richard has shipped my Hosta.

It seems there are no rules for Hosta.
My "Great Expectations" is still happily pushing up new growth. It appears to be growing stronger than Minuteman despite both were pummeled by giant hail stones.

Apparently it didn't get the memo that Autumn is here or the memo about being on the hard to grow list.

Great Expectations is supposed to be hard to grow?? I did not know/have not heard that. I got one for my Mom a couple/few years ago and must have got lucky with the spot I plunked it into cause that thing is one impressive plant now. I think you'll love it.

Thank you for putting my pictures in the database for me. That was super kind. ❀️🌺

Yes. I found Great Expectations here on the "Difficult" list... After I bought it. I was so worried but I think I'm going to be thrilled! 🌺

Moonstruck and Diana remembered are hanging in there despite how late in the season.

The only Hosta that appear to be beginning to go dormant this early October is:

Twighlight
Loyalist
Jewel of the Nile
Summer Lovin

The rest are still perky and plump.

The color has significantly returned to this Hosta that I'm hoping is Firn Line. But I am really not seeing Firn Line or any "emerges blue with a wide white margine."

I'm still seeing a solid green colored Hosta. I'm of the opinion The Hosta Farm sent me something besides Firn Line. They have not responded to my emails or phone messages, or fax.

OK!

It's been almost 3 weeks since My Hosta from The Hosta Farm arrived.

Now I am ready to give my honest evaluation... I think they deliberately scammed me.

(Finish reading before you call me cynical or whatever else)

First enlarge the picture and read this photo of part of the conversation I had with honest and caring Richard at NH HOSTA.

Thumb of 2016-10-12/SpringGreenThumb/e21245

Now let me continue...

These little Hosta liners were in COLD STORAGE. That means... in order to ship it to me they deliberately went to their cold storage unit and pulled out 2 liners.

Why???

Last spring there was a notification posted here that said The Hosta Farm needs our help they have hundreds of Hosta plugs coming in and no greenhouse to grow them in...
The liners were $3.85. Here is an image of it as well as the link to the thread.

The thread "The Hosta Farm Needs Our Help" in Hostas forum

Thumb of 2016-10-12/SpringGreenThumb/170ba0

The Hosta I ordered and paid for was 'Firn Line' it was supposed to be two 3 year field grown plants. There was a couple others in the order also. I paid $9 to $12 per plant.

Thumb of 2016-10-12/SpringGreenThumb/e503a7

The Hosta Farm did not ship me what I ordered!

They shipped me $3.85 plugs they needed to get rid of instead...

But they charged me $9 and $12 for the Hosta I ordered not the plugs they shipped. The Hosta Farm put all the excess plug that they couldn't sell into cold storage and left them there.

They printed my order and deliberately went to cold storage unit and pulled out whatever they had... and tossed them in my box. They have no intention of responding... they just sold me plugs for 3 times what they were worth. πŸ˜”

I am looking up the names on the list posted last spring and these liners are starting to be recognizable...

How much do you want to bet this Hosta grows up to be:

Abiqua Drinking Gourd?

The leaves emerged solid yellow and FLAT. The larger they grow the more solid they become in color and the more cup shaped the leaves are becoming.
πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

Do whatever you want but I will NEVER buy from this company again. At minimum they could have charged me $3.89 for these liners which was the right price... the same one they listed them for last spring.

You can't blame that behavior on a daughter who has cancer. πŸ˜•
What a selfish greedy thing to do.

I could have gone to the local nursery and bought Blue Angel or Abiqua Drinking Gourd in a 2.8 quart with a semi mature plant 8 times this tall for the price I paid for these liners and I would NOT have to pay to have them shipped all the way across the US.

I saw on Dave's Garden someone posted a reply from The Hosta Farm saying "for heaven's sakes they are just plants."

No. It's NOT JUST PLANTS 😟😟
If I just wanted "a plant" ... any old plant/Hosta. I would have gone to back to Lowe's because they are selling gallon size Hosta for $2. If I just wanted "A plant". I would not be ordering and having it shipped from the other side of this continent. ☹️

It's more than a "plant". It's trust, integrity, and honesty. It's respect for MY HARD EARNED dollar, my hopes, my careful choice of plant. 😰

They deliberately pulled their excess liners that they put in cold storage and dumped them on me. Glare Glare

PLUS SHIPPING?

Certainly not one of these silly little plugs.

Here is a side by side comparison of 'June' and 'Jewel of the Nile'. June is looking good far later in the season than Jewel of the Nile.
