Yes! Pretty hard but they soften in mouth 😊 And they are like sawdust if you put too many in... DELICIOUS.. sounds bad right? Try one...then 2...then another...

We are Fava beans that way too butbthose we're soft .. soaked in something and olive oil..thick inedible skin ..squeezed the bean out.

Dad soaked his own olives too...very SPONGY...
He raised our snails too

Gene I roasted my chickpeas at 400 for about a half hour...they will be crispy but soften up some and get chewy after they cool and sit. I have an electric oven that seems to get hotter than my gas used to, so you may have to play with your temps. Just keep an eye on them so they don't burn...although they are good burned too Whistling

When we still had the dairy cows, we used to feed them roasted soybeans................and WE would eat them too. They were pretty good, unless we happened to get a 3 ton batch that were a little "over-roasted"..............LOL The cows didn't care, but that burned taste was hard to get out of your mouth. Ever eat Saint John's bread..still in the pod.... that's a toothy workout..
Seeds like stone.. spit those out but the pod is hard and it is a REAL fight to the finish. We are those as kids too..lasted all day!

Don't remember where we were talking about fruitcake.....but this is as good a place to post this as any ...I did not make it but it looks good..for a fruit cake

The ridicule that most fruitcakes face has everything to do with bad recipes, which skimp on fruit and load on the batter. In a good fruitcake the batter should barely be perceptible, acting merely as adhesive to bind the fruit and nuts. Broken down into its parts, a good fruitcake contains ingredients that most people love: plump dates, candied cherries, almond extract, pecans, walnuts and sugar. And when it comes out of the oven, it is showered in whiskey. This is by no means an inexpensive cake to make, and that is largely why it became a traditional gift. It is a cake that you wouldn't make for yourself. It is a treat.

INGREDIENTS
Butter for pans
1 pound pitted Medjool dates
½ pound prunes from Agen or use more dates
1 pound candied pineapple
1 pound candied cherries
1 cup chopped candied orange peel, or 1/4 cup freshly grated orange zest
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons double acting baking powder
½ teaspoon kosher salt
4 eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons almond extract
2 cups shelled salted pistachios
1 cup shelled almonds
2 ½ cups shelled pecans
2 cups shelled walnuts
White corn syrup
⅓ cup Armagnac, bourbon or whiskey
PREPARATION
Butter two 9-inch springform pans. Line with parchment paper, and butter again. Heat oven to 275 degrees.
Coarsely chop dates, prunes and pineapple. Combine fruit in a bowl with cherries and orange peel. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Sift this over fruit. With your hands, toss to coat.
In medium bowl, beat eggs until frothy. Beat in sugar, then almond extract. Pour over fruit. With wooden spoon, mix well. Fold in pistachios, almonds, pecans and walnuts, and mix until coated with batter.
Divide mixture between pans. Using your hands, pack batter firmly and fill in open spaces. Bake for about 1 1/2 hours, until tops of cakes look dry but not brown. When cakes are done, transfer to cooling racks. Let stand for 5 minutes, then release springform and peel off parchment paper on sides.
While cakes are still hot, brush lightly with corn syrup. Let cool 30 minutes, then spoon Armagnac on top. When completely cool, remove cakes from pan base and peel off parchment paper on bottom. If not eating right away, wrap fruitcakes in plastic wrap. They will keep for two months in refrigerator. If storing, sprinkle with more Armagnac an hour before serving

1 box Uncle Ben’s Long Grain Wild Rice (original recipe)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can water
(You can add another can of water for moister rice.)
Chicken breasts or tenders

How to make it :


In a greased 9 x 13 pan, mix the box of rice, cans of celery and mushroom soup and
one can of water. I always add the extra can of water because I like moist rice.
Arrange the raw chicken on top of the rice mixture….
Cover and seal with foil……
Bake at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours and “Don’t Peek!”
Your house will smell amazing!

It is SOOOOO good..........I found the recipe last year and made several. I made a couple for our church bake sale last month. Just a hint...........if you stocked up on cranberries and threw them in the freezer, the cold berries will make the batter harder to spread in the pan. Not impossible, but you just have to work with it a bit. Worth the effort, for sure. I just love this...........I eat way too much when I make it. And I guess I better whip one up for tomorrow's sibling brunch.

No, I have not made that other recipe............I HATE soggy bread, therefore I will never prepare OR eat bread pudding. That refrigerator overnight French Toast bake is in the same category. My sister made it last year for our brunch get-together. I HAD to take some, so I took a really small piece and had to gag the last couple mouthfuls down. I told her it was good..........it was, but to me it was the texture thing, the same reason I cannot eat tomatoes. Call me strange.

I'm sorry for my absence. Dealing with alot. I personally would add more herbs & spices that can help boost up flavor. Adding a slight sprinkle of salt wouldn't hurt. I always add fresh garlic to everything. Maybe try adding some fresh lemon juice or some fresh lemon zest. That will definitely add some brightness (as far as taste is concerned) to the dish.

Welcome back, Debbie! You've been missed here. Thanks for the response. It's tough to go low salt when you're used to using a lot. I haven't been so bad, but it's my husband who needs to lower his sodium intake drastically. We don't use salt shakers anymore, but everything we buy has it. Adding more garlic, lemon juice and herbs is a good idea. I'm having to start reading every label, and that sure slows down the shopping trips.

@Annaz, the Cranberry Christmas Cake was a hit on Christmas Eve and also the left overs for Christmas light breakfast. But the winner of the season was the Blueberry Bread Pudding by far! I suddenly have a new appreciation for my Grandfather's love for morning Milk Toast with cinnamon and sugar!
I used a combination of Cinnamon Swirl and Raisin Bread from the local store bakery instead of Potato Bread. Not much of it is left! I took the time to make the Creme Anglaise. It was devine! OF Course DH opted for Whipped Cream instead. But that is why I bought it...for those with discriminating tastes!

Blueberry Bread Pudding with Creme Anglaise

Ingredients
Blueberry Bread Pudding

1 loaf of sliced potato bread -cut into cubes
4 cups of whole milk 960 ml
3 large eggs
11/2 cups of sugar 300 gm
2 tablespoons pure vanilla 30 ml
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 5 gm
2 cups Blueberries 280 gm
1/2 stick of butter melted optional

Creme Anglaise

1 cup whole milk 240 ml
1/3 cup half and half 80 ml, or heavy cream
3 oz sugar 86 gm
4 large egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla bean powder 5 gm

Instructions
Blueberry Bread Pudding

You will need a 13×9 inch baking pan ETA (Greased or Sprayed to prevent sticking)
Cut the potato bread into cubes and place in the baking dish (it should be higher than the pan)
Gently beat the eggs, then add the milk, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla and continue to whip with a whisk until the sugar has been fully incorporated.
Pour this milk and egg mixture over the cut bread, mixing it well so that all of the bread has absorbed some of the milk. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
Add in the blueberries, distributing them through out the bread mixture. Drizzle the melted butter over the entire pan letting some of the butters richness touch as much of the top of the mixture that it can.
Cover the pudding with cling wrap (restaurant habits die hard), then cover it with foil. (ETA FORGET putting the cling wrap unless it is professional-oven-proof! Just seal it tight with foil and place a pan beneath it as there will be drippings!)
Bake for One hour at 350 degrees, then uncover and continue to bake for 15 minutes more or until center is fully set. (if the butter has pooled in any area, spread it around before the finally 15 minutes…this will help get it golden brown.)
Allow the pudding to cool some, but serve it warm with the Creme Anglaise

Creme Anglaise

Bring 4 eggs to room temperature, and separate using only the yolks.
Whip the egg yolks with the sugar (ETA In a small mixing bowl) until fluffy and pale yellow, set aside
In a small pot heat the milk and half and half until it is simmering, remove from heat.
Slowly mix half of the milk into the egg mixture, stirring the eggs as you pour the hot milk into them.
Add the egg mixture back into the remaining milk along with the vanilla and continue to simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture has slightly thickened, use a rubber spatula to stir the mixture constantly, getting into all the corners.
(The Creme Anglaise should be thick enough that when you run your finger through a coating on a spoon it remains separated.) <~~~~ETA This is a good indication!!
You may strain the Creme Anglaise if it looks like it might have cooked egg in it, but if you're careful you should not need to. **
Place the pot with the finished sauce in a bowl of ice water to cool it down quickly, stirring as it cools.
Place the Creme Anglaise in the refrigerator to get completely chilled and serve with the warm bread pudding.

Recipe Notes
**do not get the creme anglaise too hot and don't be tempted to leave it on too long to try and continue to thicken. It will break and be unusable if it heats too long.

AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD

Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk or 2 cups milk plus 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
Cinnamon/sugar mixture
2/3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease two loaf pans
In a mixer cream together butter, 2 cups of sugar, and eggs.
Next add milk, flour, and baking soda.
Put 1/4 of the batter (or a little less) into each of the greased loaf pans
Mix in separate bowl the 2/3 c sugar and cinnamon.
Sprinkle 3/4 of the cinnamon mixture on top of the batter in each pan.
Next add spread the remaining batter in the bread pans
Then sprinkle both pans with last of cinnamon topping.
Swirl a knife through the batter of each pan
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 min. or until toothpick tester come clean.
Cool in pan for 20 minutes before removing from PAN


The Best Banana Bread Ever and its Easy!


Prep time: 15 mins
Cook time: 55 mins
Total time: 1 hour 10 mins
Serves: 10-
Its a super easy recipe!!! And it freezes well!
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup sugar
¾ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
1 – 1 ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
3 very ripe, soft, darkly speckled bananas, mashed well (about 1 – 1 ½ cups)
1/4 cup PLAIN yogurt
2 large eggs, beaten lightly
6 TBLSP butter, melted and Cooled
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Instructions
Start with melting butter listed below to start cooling before starting!!
Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease and flour pan. Set aside.
Mix mashed bananas, yogurt, eggs and melted/cooled butter and vanilla with
wooden spoon in medium bowl. *I throw it in a bowl with my handheld mixer here and just keep going*Whisk flour, sugar, salt and walnuts in large bowl to combine, set aside. Scrape batter into prepared loaf pan. Bake until loaf is golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean… about 55 minutes. Cool in pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer to wire rack.

Epica Spice Grinder. OK, maybe you are not as "into" spices as I am but it is a great grinder for: coffee beans, nuts, most anything even ice. Powerful. Most grinders cannot do ice. See thru lid so you can tell when you are done grinding. Removable cup makes it easy to pour out results. Easy clean up.. For most of my life I have been using a Braun coffee bean grinder but it was never clean. Easy clean makes it worth getting this grinder. I actually bought mine from eBay so I did not have to buy more to get to Amazon's $49. for free S&H. Gene

I have a grinder that does everything except drink the coffee...but I use a tiny one with a clear lid..and love it. It does need a dusting out tho.
