Is that on the iPad? I just reversed the colours on mine and it made it so much easier to read with a black background (Settings - Accessibility) but the problem there is that it reverses the colours on the images too! So when I looked at a plant pictured in the Plant ID forum it had leaves in the most fetching shade of bright purple! Hmm, wonder if an actually purple-leaved plant would turn green......

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I want a pale green background. Wouldn't that look nice? I am on an iPad some of the time, but also have a computer.

I use a desktop PC with Firefox browser and was able to change the background color-- but for ALL websites not just the NGA website. That is OK with me at least so far, but you may find that to be a problem with some other websites... If you want to try it:

In Firefox browser select "Tools" menu and then "Options".
On left side of screen that comes up select "Content"
On right side select "Colors"
You then can click on the button next to "Background" to select a color (I selected the 2nd gray down from white).
In the dropdown box under "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above:" select "Always"

Dennis, what happens if you don't say Always? Does it give you the option to only do it for certain sites? I thought that was the case with some options. I'd wondered about doing that too but haven't had a chance to spend time with the laptop since the change.

Sue, unfortunately the options aren't good, no way that I can find yet to specify for specific websites...

Thanks, Dennis. I use the iPad for NGA mostly anyway but it was just a thought. Apparently one can change the background colours on a web page in Safari ios9 on iDevices by using the Reader option but we don't seem to have that on NGA now - I thought we did before.

I searched and found an add-on for Firefox called "Color That Site!" that looks like it lets you set colors for specific websites...

Thanks, Dennis!

Is there any way to change the actual background around the posts, yet keep the posts white or light gray?

That's what I want.

Right now my viewing pages are just too bright which includes the current gray background. My choice would be light gray for the posts and a very pale green. (Paler than the green in your example above, Dennis.)

Something soothing to the eyes and since I love green and this is a gardening site, a very pale green would be perfect, IMHO. Smiling Smiling Smiling

The front page is just horribly plain and ugly , whoever designed it must be blind and have no clue what he's doing , and to call it an improvement is just ridiculous, he should be fired , LOL

@lechat1,
I doubt if Dave is about to fire himself, but if you are talking about the home page when you say "front page" he has given you many choices and ways to redesign it.

I have light sensitivity, but one I adjusted my monitor brightness level I have had no real problem. I do find all the blank space on the right a bit distracting right now.

My problem right now is that I am on my tablet as usual and the Home Button is not there and neither are any of the icons on the upper left. No bell, no profile silhouette, nothing! Confused

The email, the bell, the profile, etc.are on the right on my ipad, and on my desktop.

Everything is here on the desktop. So have to figure out what happened on my tablet.

Whatever it was is fixed now. Just checked the tablet and they are back.

I really don't understand a post like this. I wish I had the option of redoing any number of webpages that I visit on a regular basis. I think whether the changes here are crappy or not might depend on the viewer and agreement on that not in any way universal.

IMO this is an informational site structured via a social media platform. The information didn't go anywhere, so the nuts and bolts of the webpage are still in place.

I'll shut up now. Shrug!

Or a phone (which, today though, is probably the same thing, except for size)

As @dave said, a lot of it is just a matter of familiarity, but one "bug" that I did notice is that when previewing mails or forum messages on a phone, there is no line-wrapping within the boundaries of the text box, which necessitates endless swiping to view long sentences. I'm sure this can be taken care of fairly easily.

I agree I agree Sue. Dave has worked very hard on this and is so willing to work with us to tweak it. I don't notice things someone else might notice but I've got my main issues figured out. Just took a little patience and suggestions from other users who were extremely helpful. I can't imagine the work it took for Dave to redo the website and now to tweak it when there are so many users and we all have different priorities as to what we look for. There are things I actually like better. Thanks Dave Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Sad

I thoroughly agree, Sue! Dave has worked very hard on this and most of us are respectful of the changes, even those we don't personally "like." We're with you, Dave! (and Trish)!
Thumbs up
