There are quite a few seed buyers that are from other countries and can't get plants shipped in so they will bid a good bit on seeds. There are a few in state buyers that must have at least 100 acres because they buy at least 1000 different crosses (or close to it) plus 100s of daylilies and this wasn't the first year doing that. I sure would like to see their gardens during peak bloom!!!!

Tink, compared to what the plant would cost at a hybridizers website, I think the LA is very reasonable!

Teresa, I think there used to be a program (still may be). If I remember correctly many many years ago people were complaining about auto bidding programs being used on ebay and I believe ebay made their system where these types of programs can't be used.

I would feel bad doing it

I would not want the other ATP bidder to be mad at me knowing that they were outbid seeing my name.

I was thinking that it is not fair to the seller if no one bids against me. I might bid low (say $10.) then if no bids the seller has to let me have it at the low price... Also that price goes into the closed file and might drive the prices down.. If another seller list it for 25.00 which might be a fair price, people will see that I got it for $10. and think the other seller is over charging??.... (tink, help me out).


Marilyn, you are way too nice!.. It's an auction, also it's a computer. .. If they give you a dirty look you will not see it.. .. The worst thing they can do is bid against you and that helps the seller to get their proper price. I do love and appreciate the 'buy-it-now', I don't like people who have none because lots of times I will add such an item at the last minute to make the postage work. Plus it is easy on the nerves!

I'm just happy that no one bid against me for Whale Tails. Mona won one for $50.00, because I wouldn't bid against her lol. I won one from Abundantdaylilies for $70.00.

That is the one that had 'Butterfly Mountain', I saw a double fan on Floyd Cove for $150. and she had a single for 25.00, so I lost out on that one but it's back on the want list. No way I can pay 150.

I agree with Michelle - it's an auction, go ahead and BID. There is nothing wrong with doing so, and noone here should get upset because someone else bid against them, even at the last moment.

And I too have bid late, because I won something else from the same seller and want to optimize my postage.

But I do understand the frustration, I have come home from work thinking I may have won something (was the high bidder when leavimg for work)... and realize I lost it. Oh well, it's OK, it will come back again in the future. I can be frustrated, or PO'd - but only for a few minutes, then I need to get over it. ~Jan

Dot, I didn't even notice Mark had put WT on there, I don't know how I over looked that one. I already won one back in July for $188 for a DF (ended up with a TF), but I like to watch and see what they sell for.

Sometimes losing an auction is for the best. I get in bidding mode and run them up sometimes but I have lost out and then win one at a cheaper price

You are absolutely right! I lost the single fan and ended up getting a double for a great price. Someone saw my post, so whining helps too!
