I have bought from him before and he means what he says. He always sends single fans. Sometimes, if you buy two, you might receive a DF, not 2 SF's, but that is rare. I think he lines them out that way (as SF's) though, so he knows exactly how many he has.

I agree. I purchased from him a couple of years ago and you get exactly what you paid for. I thought he grew his singles in pots in a greenhouse?
I have no desire to keep bidding to get two fans of anything. Mike is a really nice person so don't take my comment as a negative against him. He is
honest in his listings on the LA. Fans are nice sized that I received but they struggle here to increase. I knew what I was buying and my expectation
was met.

I heard that Mike144mann lines out using tree trays I think they are called which gives the roots plenty of depth to grow. I have ordered a few from him the plants he sends to me have always been very healthy single fans.

he states on his auction page that all sales plants are lined out in 2 gallon pots in June and July and grown in a minimally heated greenhouse during the winter.

Michele that is interesting I wonder if he changed how he lines out or if the person that informed me had it wrong. I checked out the LA and you are correct. I know the single fans he sends are very healthy. I know I would buy more from him if he sold double fans simply because in my garden double fans do much better it takes single fans much longer to get settled in and increase.

When I commented on how long his roots were, Mike told me that he uses tree pots. Tree pots are deeper than the average pot. On the note of whether he ever sends anything other than single fans, I remember only one time receiving a double fan. Every other time was a SF. If he only plants SFs in the pots and grows the daylilies in a minimally heated greenhouse, the daylilies don't have the heat and time to increase before shipping in the spring. The fans have always been a good size, actually surprisingly large coming from the north.

Is that because of the heated greenhouse? I do not mind the single fans because of my zone. If I lived up north I would only order doubles, unless I had a greenhouse and that's a fat chance. Whistling

I think he heats it when temperatures fall below 32 in the greenhouse. I would think the sun keeps it warm enough during the day that he does not have to heat too often on sunny days. The night temperatures would be a different matter and may have to heat then. Of course, Minneapolis has a good bit of snow and very cold temps. I suspect that he has a good fertilization program, too. I think you will be pleased with the size of the fans and the root systems of each.

Thanks Doris, I think I will because I read good things about him and I have no doubt that they will do well. Did I tell you I won two of each one? So I actually have two fans of each daylily. Thumbs up

Single fans here seem to take forever to increase. When it is affordable and if I can only find a certain daylily that I want and it is only a SF, I will get a second SF. I would rather see two fans in one hole than just one. Whistling I know it is just me, but a SF looks so lonely by itself. We have one single fan (Kaleidoscope Puzzle) coming in the spring, and it will have to remain a SF until it increases or maybe we will get lucky and receive an extra fan (probably not). The hole is ready and waiting in a bed that I have just finished redoing this past weekend.

Doris, I bought some of the more expensive daylilies as single fans when I could not get anything else at my price. They too will stay singles till they mature. All are from the LA.

Green Revolution
JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS
CLEAR MOUNTAIN MORNING
PRINCESS DIANA
Raspberry Mountain
PATSY CLINE
LACY ALL OVER

Besides what I got from Mike144, these were listed as single fans, I might be able to add a second fan later for some of these. Just added a second fan this morning for PISTACHIO EYES and GREEN MYSTIQUE.

Lyle has posted some pictures of some of his seedlings from Green Revolution. It makes a good parent. We have used it and hope to get some nice seedlings, too. We got Patsy Cline as a small single fan 4-5 years ago, and it has been slow to multiply. I moved it a couple of years ago, and it seems to like its new location. The fans are now very large.

Patsy will probably increase better for you. Sometimes we have to move daylilies around until we find the right location for them to grow and prosper. Ours is much happier now.
