I have purchased from Mike, and was happy, yes, it was a single fan but I wasn't disappointed. Except for a few daylilies, all of my single fans ( no matter who I purchased them from) have increased as expected, so I am not complaining for the most part.

One of my single fan purchases that hasn't done well has been Tusk (would have to check my records to see who I bought that from) which had major setbacks when it first arrived here- from rot to a failure to thrive. But it HAS survived, and is now equal in size to my seedlings I planted this summer. I suspect I am pushing its zones, and am still babying it, but it is still alive. I suspect it will be another two years before I see a bloom from it, but that's ok.

But the majority of the rest of my purchases, whether they are single or double fans, seem to do well. I truly love dealing on the LA. But I also agree, if I am spending a lot of money on a daylily, that I would prefer it to be a double fan.

HI guys!! New to the forum but i bid a lot on the LA...got some GREAT new crosses for the spring and im psyched.....I have had some great experiences with these sellers:

Zildjian- very easy to talk to and work with....great communication

Rich- really great seeds and crosses and great communication

Lilygirlz- great healthy plants and nice bonuses

Daizey4283- Holy moley I bid on two fans got FIVE and a DOUBLE fan of bonus plant....great!!!

Osugrad- I know people have had problems from them in the past...and they had quite a bit of negative feedback years ago...but i think they have gotten it together i have purchased several things and have been very pleased

Magiccrystal- great new seller..works with Richard Norris...got lots of extra fans of PIGMENT OF IMAGINATION and they followed up with me thru email on their own...TWICE..great!!!

Hemguy- great seller sent extra fans

Daylilyparadise- always send very healthy seeds and great bonuses!!

OK....for the not so great ones...these arent terrible...but i dont know if i would buy from again or not...

Amazing Daylilies- bid TWO WEEKS before sandy hit...DLs never came...kept trying to email with NO response...finally sent one begging not to send in the middle of sandy ( it got freezing here in TN and snowed...a nighmare for a southern daylily!!) and still got no response...so i sent another one saying it was getting too late please dont send till spring....still nothing...a month later they finally respond saying they were having server problems and had just gotten my emails and were sorry....AND THEN THEY MAILED IT!! GRRRR....so i planted it and am hoping against hope it lives...now they in no way misrepresented the product i got what i bid on....but i was sorta irked they didnt even bother to send a bonus after all that mess.....

Morrigardens- bid on greetings earthling...was so UBBER excited to get it....but when it came was quite dry and the size of a year old seedling....i bid on a single fan so i knew its wouldnt be huge...and GE is only a 4.5 inch flower so i figured it wouldnt be huge....but is was tiny....they did however send a great metal marker with....

Welcome! emily, Thanks for all the information. I have been doing some reading on the internet and other places and it seems that it is very hard to leave even a neutral rating. So, the system makes it difficult to know the good sellers from the bad sellers. It is a trial and error thing for all of us. I thought it was a little suspicious that everybody has positive feedback. Confused
On the GW, I was getting an earful and I just wish that people were allowed to be honest like with the Watchdog.
I read about missing bonuses, missing plants, ripped off on labels and these sellers had no negative feedback.
If I did have a problem I would go straight to Mike Longo. He did show up on the GW and voiced his concerns and asked for email from people with negative experiences. If that didn't work and certainly that would be a long shot, there is the US postal inspection service, because what we receive is through the mail, then it would be covered under 'Mail Fraud', just file a complaint... Shrug!

Teresa--Well, it depends on where they came from, what conditions they were grown in, and does the plant normally make small fans.

Tink, it was not about the size. Just general complaints.

Welcome! Welcome! Emily

Just so everyone knows, if you ever have a problem with anyone on the Lily Auction (can't get in touch with them, never received plants, and so on) and can't resolve the issue with the seller PLEASE contact Mike Longo through the LA with the support/questions/contact us link near the bottom of page.
He will do what he can to help resolve any issues. Emily, he would have gotten in touch with Pete for you since he has everyone's phone numbers.

Thanks for all of the hello guys!!! its great to feel welcome!! LOL i dont have near the number of dayliles im sure you guys have but im trying to load up LOL!! This will be my first year planting seedlings and im trying to get a lot of patterned/ teethed crosses...love 'em but cant afford the price on ones like deadliest catch ( drool!!!) but i got some seeds!!

BGM- I have been training/riding horses most of my life and my "soul horse" is a chestnut "red" morgan mare...so thus "redhorse"....and my maiden initials were EG...lol

Marilyn- Im redhorseeg on the LA too...im a definite lurker *Blush* which neans if i really want something i usually wait until its almost over then bid...lol let me know if im bidding against you and I wont Big Grin

BGM and Tink- I didnt leave Morrigardens negative feedback for the small fan...i just noted it in my feedback for them....i wanted to be fair ....where im sorta new on there too i wanted to be very careful not to be too negative

Tink- yep after i realized it was Harry daylilies to be honest i was a little intimidated ( they are one of the biggest hybridizers in the country as im sure you guys know) and i was really sorta afraid to go up against them so i just didnt leave any feedback at all....I really hate to leave negative feedback unless they just plain ol steal from me or something....i just felt like they brushed it off like i didnt matter....which i felt like was SO surprising for such a big outfit.....and to be honest i kept hoping there would be some explaination for what was happening....which there was....but had it been me that made that big a mistake i would have been much more accomodating..... Shrug!

I just want to make a comment to Emily and everybody else about something that happened to me last week. I bid on a daylily I really wanted. I was surprised that there were no bids for a number of days so with a day and a half to go, I put in my bid. There were NO bids at all so I thought I was really fortunate to have a good chance to get this DL. You can imagine how I felt when with ONE SECOND to go, the ambush bidder hit with a higher bid. I did go ahead and bid one more time, but this person obviously had deeper pockets than I did, so I gave up. I know this is perfectly legal, I guess all is supposed to be fair in love, war, and the LA but I can't help feeling it's unethical. So now I guess I am a crybaby sore loser, but I would never do that to another person.

Maybe it's already been mentioned, but don't forget if your plant came from the north, it will grow. They won't be the huge leek sized fans. Especially spring shipping. The plants are often just starting to take off. I actually prefer a smaller, northern, early spring plant because I think they move easier and don't seem to miss a beat. A plant from the south will usually shrink in size before it adapts to the climate difference, and often time less fertilizer. The sellers in sandy soils do have to add nutrients. I suppose it all makes a difference where the plants are headed too. I'm only speaking from a northern perspective. Ohio. Oh, and buying directly from the hybridizer is always a worthwhile endeavor. They will often spend lots of time chatting about the different nuances of daylilies and be able to give more personal help.

Avedon- i never wait THAT long....I always bid within five minutes.....and Mike Longo has it set up so if you bid at the last second it resets itself for five more minutes so you always have a chance to bid higher....I think its as fair as it can be...its an auction so its all about the highest bidder....you just have to set a limit and stay within it...Im really sorry that happened to you i know that it sucks...there were several seed crosses i really wanted and this one in particular with Hooked i got in a last five minutes bidding war with two other people and i gave up because they just kept upping the anti...theres a seed cross i want to bid on today and the same two are already fighting over it...im just like oh no! not again......def let us know your screename so we dont bid against you!

True, all is fair in auctions. That said, it has happened to me, too. Sure it bugs me, and I would never do it to another person. After a short period of time of being PO'd about it, I realize that with the majority of auctions, there will be a next time.

Welcome Emily!

I too started out with just a few, and bought seeds from ones I couldn't afford the parent plants from. Those seedlings are my BABIES! I actually had to force myself to quit babying them - cause I only want the strongest to survive. Weak daylilies are no benefit to anybody, but I still want them all to live!
