Lilypad is Penny Warren. We have won plants in the past and have been very pleased. We just won 3 more this past Sunday.

I have won plants from her and was happy with them. She had one plant that when she dug it up in the spring she didn't like what she dug up, so she sent me my money back. Coincidentally, that was one plant I accidentely won 2 of so it worked out really well. I was very impressed that she didn't send me fans she wouldn't want to receive herself. I was such a newbie at the time, I wouldn't have known any better. I would bid on her auctions again ~Jan

I completely understand the pain of losing at the last minute. It has happened to all of us that bid. I think there are some who just look at the closing auctions and bid on them. It might be because they get some good deals on things that no one else has bid on in addition to getting one that no one is monitoring to counter their last minute bid.

In the end I realized that I just had to decide ahead of time what my highest bid was going to be and bid that at the start. IF I won it for a lower price great, if someone else bid and I still won, but at a higher price, still OK as I had not bid more than I was willing to pay. If they outbid me, then so be it, the price was too high. It is easy to get caught up in a bidding war, thinking "It is just a bit more and I REALLY want it", but those $2-5 extra bids add up quickly and you can end up regretting it in the end.

Laura, I try to stick your theory and most of the time it works great. But, then I fall for my old way of, just $1 more and wham! I've bid again and usually too much. I did much better this year by putting up the max like you said. I guess we learn, given time, for me, more time than for most.

I do not always follow my own advice either The only foolproof way is if I do not have access to the computer when the auction is closing!

I confess that I am guilt of looking at the closing auctions to see if some are going for a low price. I don't stay on the LA a lot or

try not to anyway lol so there may be one that I would consider buying at a lower rate. The must haves, I put in a Max bid and

hope to catch the next one if it goes above it.

I have missed things that have been listed because I usually just click the "new" button and see what has just recently been added. Doing this I do miss things because I don't always look at each section so I may see something at the last minute that's about to close. It helps that I don't have "just to look at and admire" gardens anymore so I don't bid on things I really would if I had room. My bank account thanks me But I think I'm spending more now than when I had more room

Has anyone ever purchased from De on the Lily Auction?? She has 3 negatives, but all from one person. Considering that she sold almost 1400 daylilies, one complaint is great! The person that gave her bad feedback is another seller?. Is there no code of ethics here?

De (John DeMory) has always sent me really nice plants, and in fact I am currently bidding on one and will be getting about five or six daylilies from him this spring. I wouldn't hesitate to order from him.
