Check my post Polly and see what you think.

As I say, we can change how the name is displayed in lists very easily, but when you open the plant up, we need to have the species field present if applicable.

In Roses, there usually is no species, but that's an anomaly.

Let's figure this out and do it right. Above all, we want this DB to be authoritative and accurate.

As a way of demonstration, I have updated the browse page to display differently for Roses, Irises, Clematis and Daylilies. I am not showing the species, whether it exists or not. You can see an example here:

I would still prefer to have Iris Active Duty, and then open it up and see the species.

But, and I say this in a nice way, it's your sandbox, and I will play by your rules. It's going to be great no matter what. We do need to have the species in there somewhere, for sure.

It just seems if someone is searching for an iris, for example I know I want to find an iris I remember that's a siberian and it starts with A, am I going to go to iris sibirica and start searching, or am I going to iris iris and start searching?

So, no matter how someone enters the iris, iris ensata Pooh Bah, or Japanese iris Pooh Bah, or Russian Water iris Pooh Bah it will still just show up as Pooh Bah?

The really insidious duplicates are the slightly misspelled ones that aren't picked up by the system. I just proposed the deletion of one as a duplicate and confused the issue. Sorry, Dave. I should have specified that it was a misspelled duplicate.

What if someone wants to see just all the Siberian Iris, would there be a way to search for that and bring up a list?

The clematis list doesn't look so good right now. Blinking Confused

The Clematis list is hilarious! It put all of the species without cultivar names on the first two and a half pages instead of at the end.

I just did a search for siberian iris and a 9 page list came up. However entries are missing. ex. Iris 'Caesar's Brother' did not show up while Iris sibirica 'Caesar's Brother' did.

I distinctly remember Sue asking a question about a possible duplicate entry in the Primulas, and now I can't find the thread where she asked.

So, if you're still wondering Sue, Primula x juliana 'Wanda' is a specific cultivar and Primula 'Wanda' is the name for a group of hybrid primroses in various colors.

Aha, but this is the new way hopefully Dave is going to do it, and I'll be able to see the duplicates.

Too bad they had to call them siberian iris and iris sibirica, talk about confusing people.

I'll do that, Sue. I didn't know all those were there before. Because one would have been under Iris C. and one under Iris S for siberian or sibirica.
