I did not ask for a replace as I supposed ALL the terrecottas were in a group in the greenhouses and ALL labled wrong.
Repotting is a good idea for you young wippersnappers. Not for me.I only take advantage of early season sales as they are that springs plants.
There is a risk in buying late season sale plants.
Some nurseries plant plugs in pots and sell them as rooted nursery stock. This is why they dont live,no time for roots to develop.
When I see a September or later plant on sale I lift the pot and see if there are roots coming out the bottom,if not I give the plant a tug. Many times I have tugged ,gently and found the fresh 2 inch plug in a4 inch pot of fresh potting soil. I take a pass on that plant.
My methods for buying low priced plants are developed to save me energy and time replanting and digging a hole for a plant more than once. It's just economy of stamina which is in short supply here.

Thanks for the heads-up, Susan. Thumbs up

My latest order of drastically reduced perennials from Santa Rosa, received about three weeks ago, was wonderful! The plants' roots filled the containers, were exceptionally healthy-looking, and the plants have taken off already! Hurray!

There were several others that I wanted to order, but they won't be available until spring, so I'll pre-order them now.

Sorry to hear about your tagging troubles, Jo Ann. Group hug Perhaps they'll issue you a refund if you let them know?

Well sense it is so hot here I have to have everything planted by the first of May and even still I will be stuck watering everyday. I have better success planting in the fall because I do not have to water them. I water one time usually and that is it, they always come back except for a few that rot. I would say 95% of them come back.
To me potting is just easier because I do not have to be on my knees as much plus I work a lot so potting is also more convenient, I have a big potting table in my garage and a huge trash can full of soil-less potting mix, also I have ten gal. paint buckets with mulch, alfalfa. Milorganite, sand, fertilizer, and mushroom compost so I can mix it anyway and anytime, got lights, heater, and even a radio. Life is good.....
They can live in the pots till I find an opportunity to plant them. I need a nice day, not raining, not tired, and be off at the same time. What are the chances of that happening?
Maybe I just like pots and do not want to admit it, the pot ghetto seems to be normal for me.

I use Santa Rosa for Heuchera. They are always the right ones. I got some very cheap lthis year. They are really good about replacing plants if they send the wrong one.

Great idea! I just got an order of asters a few weeks ago and I am just happy to be able to reserve a few at such a good price. Not to mention the flat rate shipping. The plants are always full of roots and very ready for re-potting.

Group hug , Susan.

Around here we often use the term affectionately toward those who can do easily what's no longer simple for us. Like when our children can run circles around us all day...and still want to stay up all night! Hilarious!

Hurray! Nice!!!

Give your Geranium Rozanne all the sun you can possibly get. Mine grew rangy and flopped everywhere in part sun. If you shear it after it's first flush it'll likely bloom again once late summer temps start to lower.

I'm growing Lewisia and Bletilla for the first time, too...haven't killed them yet, although the critters keep digging up my orchids. Rolling my eyes.

I've tried to grow Verbena homestead purple. Could not get it to over winter.

I grow Penstemon Red Riding Hood. It is three years old. It is red. They didn't have the different color Riding Hoods back then. Mine is a trooper! Blooms ALL summer long and into the fall. Still blooming now even after lots of hard frosts. Also the plant gets large for me and I divide it for other areas of my garden. Early this fall I bought two of the new colors on closeout at Lowe's or Home Depot. Can't wait to see them in spring

I still have some and they're my experimental plants, so it's okay. The next ones I get will go in the ground under chicken wire though. Now, I know. Big Grin

Wow, great to hear about Red Riding Hood!! I will do the same when mine gets big, I love those blooming machines and in a small city lot all plants have to earn their keep. Sounds like RRH will be a keeper. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Susan, you shouldn't have any trouble over wintering Verbena Homestead Purple. I had it in MD and it did fine.

Thank you both! Is Sedum Thunderhead as purple as it looks? Wow. Believe it or not I purchased the Red Riding Hood Pink and the verbena Homestead Purple because I read they look good together in a container garden. Green Grin!
