Ursula, that Angraecum sesquipedale is going to be spectacular...can't wait to see it open, fingers crossed you'll
have it to enjoy at Christmas!
Bree, congratulations on your first flowering of C. portia blue..I'm sure you feel like a proud mama!
Kathy, looks like you've got some cool stuff in the pipeline as well, let the flower photo parade begin!
I've got some news as well, in the spring I traded a DGer for some phaius bulbs..roots...tubers? and
they have been growing and one of them has a tiny spike-ette ..too small to photograph, but I am watching
it like a hawk. Also one of the little Tolumnia that I got a while back has a spike, the other has 3 new growths.

That's good news Lindsey! I think most of my Tolumnias are dying. Once they get scale it is almost impossible to save them. Beware! Beware! Sad
I will live vicariously!

Lindsey, I agree with Kathy, Tolumnias are scale magnets. I am checking mine often/hopefully before the little white scale gets deep into the growth, especially into new growth. Looking at your very cute plant, I see a small round white dot. This is the stuff I look for.
Keeping that in mind, with excellent vigilance the little plants make for a very nice show.

Bree, I like C Penny Kuroda 'Spots', it puts on a really nice show in early Summer around here. Looking forwards to the C. Portia too.

Lindsey, I cross -posted...

OMG!
Ursula, you are SO right...I should have put that picture into the 'ooooh bugs' thread!
I just wiped it down with alcohol using a q tip...hope that will take care of the immediate
threat, and tomorrow when the light is better I'll go at it with the magnifying glass. There
was a little cluster on the opposite side, and soon if I'm not careful this plant will go into
the 'no longer with us thread'!

I wouldn't sweat it. I learned that there is no way I can grow Orchids without bug attacks. The trick is to catch it before it goes out of control, that's all. A couple of those dots are easily cleaned up.
Oncidium Twinkle is another one of those scale magnets....along with what hides under those dried skins on Cattleya pbulbs. How many times did I look pleased as punch at a blooming Cattleya and saw those dreaded dots on neighboring growth. It's an on-going battle.

I agree Just part of life with orchids I guess. I had a guest come over to see the orchids. She asked what orchids she could grow that stay in bloom all year and never have bugs. I told her not to grow orchids!!

Finally some good news here. Cym Beacon Fire 'Cecil Park' does indeed have a spike. Pendant dark red mini flowers on order!
