Indoor plant experiments to while away the winter
Posted on Dec 1, 2025 11:52 AM

Hello and Welcome! to my first post!

I've decided to try some tomato growing experiments. I've been wondering how far I can get just using regular LED bulbs, for example. I had been using soft white and have now determined that they should at least be daylight type and probably a little bit stronger than the ones I've been using. I've just been using clamp lights and experimenting with distance from the plants. Very close doesn't seem to bother them. I need to work out how to mount the clamp lights. I don't have a setup yet but was considering making some stands out of pvc pipe and elbows.

Recently I discovered that petting my tomato plants might help them sturdy up even if they're leggy! It's called thigmomorphogenesis.

I've only been doing it for about four days but I think I am already seeing progress! Moving air is another thigmomorphogenetic stimulus so I plan to set up a fan soon.
