Can you recomend a hearty flowering plant for along the sides of a concrete walkway which gets direct sun thru the day all summer long...Impatiens are a perfect hight and hold the bloom..but tend to wilt in the direct sun/heat?

Impatiens generally prefer at least partial shade, so it sounds like you need to look for a full sun plant. For mid height flowers with all summer bloom in the pink or pastel range, you might consider an annual verbena such as "Tickled Pink", the smaller zinnias such as the "Pinwheel Series", or a spreading annual phlox such as "Starry Eyes"; in the whites you might like the "white" marigolds or perhaps the bright "Mont Blanc" nierembergia. Finally, the "Nicki Mix" of nicotiana offers lovely shades of pinks and white mixed together. Since the site sounds a bit hot and dry you might also want to work plenty of organic matter into the soil before planting and use a nice layer of mulch to help insulate the soil and maintain even soil moisture. Good luck with your border this summer!
