You didn't provide much information about your tree so I'm not sure what to suggest. Cherry trees can develop a fungal disease which can affect the leaves and branches. Usually pruning out the damaged plant parts will help, followed by fungicide applications in the early spring just as the new growth is developing. If you don't know why your tree is dying, take a branch and leaf sample to your cooperative extension office for diagnosis. Helpful folks there can suggest control measures. Contact Cornell Cooperative Extension, 308 Main Street Shop Ctr, Waterloo, NY 13165-1455 phone (315) 539-9251. Good luck with your cherry tree.
