I have an old grapefruit tree in a planter area in my backyard...I placed stone gravel in the planter which covered over the root system...roots are not exposed above ground...should I remove the stone away from the tree? I know its winter here in Fl., I'm not sure if the tree is suffering for this.

I don't think gravel will harm the roots of your grapefruit tree. We recommend that soil not be piled up over tree roots because it can cause rot by holding too much moisture against the roots. But gravel will allow good drainage and will also allow air movement so I don't think it will cause a problem with the roots of your grapefruit tree.
