|Where may I order fruit bearing olive trees? This will be a Christmas present for a relative in southeast Michigan. Will it survive outdoors there? If not, this relative intends to keep in the winter in the basement or garage.|
|You might want to reconsider giving an olive tree as a gift to someone in Michigan. Olive trees come from tropical and temperate areas and will not thrive in such a cool climate. Even if it is protected during the winter months, the summer season won't be a long enough growing season for it to do much more than put out leaves and barely survive. It would never fruit under such circumstances, sorry to say.|
Olive trees are readily available at nurseries in California and southern Arizona. Try Swan Hill Nursery, PO Box 420, Waddell, AZ 85355 (602)228-7352 or Oregon Exotics Rare Fruit Nursery, 1065 Messinger Dr., Grants Pass, OR 97527 (503) 846-7578. There's also California Tropical Fruit Tree Nursery at (800)676-6747.
