Septembers tip said , Don't fertilize trees, in cool weather, does this apply to bi annual fruit tree spikes?I moved this young fig tree to a new southern facing wall .It has done much better there.

Fertilizer spikes release their nutrients very slowly so there should be no problem with using them now. The caution about fertilizing in the fall is that granular fertilizer is fast acting and can encourage new growth which won't have time to harden off before cold weather arrives. This is generally not the case with ferilizer spikes because they dissolve so slowly. Best wishes with your fig tree!
