Small, clumping Gasteria from the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. Rosettes are distichous, with gray-green, rough-textured leaves up to 1-2 inches long. Flowers are very swollen at the base and an orangey pink-red color.

Found growing on south-facing (shaded) cliffs on the lower Kouga River (now Kouga Dam) in a protected reserve. Described in 1991 and relatively common in cultivation due to its proliferous nature. Well behaved in small pots, easy to propagate from offsets. Said not to tolerate much direct sun, but it does fine in the sun here with some partial overhead shade during late spring and early summer. Leaves grow significantly longer in the shade. This species may be confused with G. baylissiana and G. glauca.
