I have a patio rug that is on a poured patio but no roof over it, it gets alot of weather. Has started to have molded patches on it, and I'm not sure how to clean this? I have plants around the patio area and don't want to use anything that may kill my plants. How do you protect/clean your rugs, or furniture outdoors? I don't seem to have any luck with keeping things nice for long.

Frilly-what is your patio rug made out of-that would help to determine how to clean it and take care of it.

If this is the normal outdoor rug, I've used my pressure washer with just soap and water in it. I rinse it later with plain water. It really brings back the color in our very colorful rug.

I tried looking for a tag but didn't find one, I dont know what it is. It is just an outdoor patio rug I think bought at lowes. I wish I could find something that would last a long time outdoors and not mold.

I can try the power washer, it may help, I could use something like Dawn. I found some mold remover/cleaner at lowes but not sure if safe for plants.

Do you remember the brand? 30 seconds is safe for plants.

I have no idea, my mother in law gave it to me, it was new but it didn't have any tags. I didn't buy it originally.

I have not heard of 30 seconds, will check that out for sure.

The one I looked at is Mold Armor , it says bleach free.

Hmm. That almost looks like for indoor use?

yes it probably is I guess. Hadn't thought of that.
If I could take the rug up and clean it in the driveway that might work, but it has a heavy wooden swing on it and I need to clean it in place, so that is why the concern for the plants around it.

I'm not sure if it's an indoor product, that they take plants into consideration, so I'm not sure if it'd be plant safe (even when it says bleach free).

I tip my hat to you. I've used it myself and had no issues. I just made sure to hose off the plants. If I remember correctly, it has directions on what to do with plants. It does smell like bleach, but I'm not certain what's in it. I just remember it not harming anyone.

I have a Shark steam cleaner which we use on rugs and I have even used it on our
deck boards.

I used my Hoover carpet cleaner on a rug on our deck, with the usual carpet shampoo stuff; nothing around the deck died Smiling

It was kind of hard to tell whether it was dirt or mold - but it did clean it up pretty well, and the carpet cleaner sucks almost all of the solution back out of the rug in the process.
