Thread OP

So when i grew in my 5 gallon buckets i used potting soil mixed with some compost, i was gonna just dump all my buckets of top soil into my new raised beds but im seeing to use topsoil instead of potting soil? Theres so much info on the web just wondering what the best and cheapest option would be for filling my raised beds

If it were only potting soil, I'd say no, but if it's mixed with compost and some top soil, I think it's fine. My raised beds are a mix of leftovers... various amendments and compost, used potting soil, amended garden soil...

Keep in mind that potting soil on its own lacks the nutrients that soil and compost contain, which is why plants in pots need regular fertilizing. Your aim will be to create nutritious soil in your bed, keeping it well draining, so maybe don't add heavy clay soil.

For what its worth, I filled my raised beds using a 60/40 potting soil mix from a local mulch place. It was pretty cheap $30-34 cu/yd, and was a topsoil/compost mix with vermiculite/perlite already added.

Seems like good stuff to me, my plants have done really well in it, both in raised beds and containers.
