Saw this on my walk today. Not much is blooming this time of year. Would like an ID so I can grow it myself. If it helps, some leaves in the picture might belong to weeds. Also, the plants were about a foot tall or a bit less.

Thanks guys! I originally thought that but I thought they were much taller for some reason.

They are usually taller, maybe there are shorter cultivars or that one was cut back earlier and regrew but flowered again at a lower height. You could confirm the ID by moving the flowers next time you go by, if you can reach them without trespassing!

Agree on some kind of Physostegia.

Maybe this? I just got it a couple years ago and it has been a late bloomer.
False Dragonhead (Physostegia digitalis)

I'm not sure how to sort the species.

This was growing by the curb so no issues with trespassing. But I've never understood what it means to move the flowers. Is the stem supposed to twist? I don't see how the flowers can move without falling off.

Pretty weedy plant.
You could probably just pull one, and plant at your house and have success.
problem is, spreads like mad from roots... (spreads by rhizomes )
This is one that will need constant thinning to keep in check...

Compare growing habit to japanese anemone, and showy pink primrose (Oenothera speciosa)...

Edit:
Any chance this stand was mowed during the summer?

I also have never understood how you' move ' them. Maybe there's a video online.
Plant it and they will come.

When you push the flowers to one side they stay put, hence the name obedient plant.

Now I get it! D'Oh! I'll have to try that!

No chance the plant was ever cut back or mowed down. And they don't have to worry about spreading because it's surrounded by concrete. I'd definitely put it in a planter though.
