No one I know can identify this plant and I cannot remember planting it, so It probably hitchhiked in. Its somewhat light green and has serrated leves. Not much help, I know. Any guesses would be welcome. Its about 12-15 inches high at the end of May. No flowers or berries as of today. Does well in afternoon heat. Seems to be thriving. Thanks for any help.

Maybe some kind of Spirea ???

Spirea makes some sense to me. I have 3 in beds and they might be the source of the volunteer. The fact that the mysteryplant is bushy seems to me to lean that way .

I am pretty clueless with trees and did not consider that option until now, but the leaves are quite similar.

Elm leaves would be a little sand papery. Spirea smooth.

I think it is a Prunus sp. Note the glands on the petioles.

I also detect a whiff of stipules...
