Quite by accident, I placed my first "order" of a daylily for Spring 2024 delivery. Scott Elliott spoke at our daylily club meeting last Saturday and had an auction of some of his plants. I expected that the auction would be like previous club auctions in which the grower brings the bare root plants to the meeting, and we take them home and plant them. However, being so late in the season, Scott was actually auctioning off plants which will be delivered in the spring to our club president, and then dispersed at a club meeting. Shrug!

Anyway, most of the bids went way too high for my budget, but I finally won "Mayor of Cornatzer". I didn't realize it at the time of the auction, but this daylily won a 2023 Award of Merit. Hurray! I also didn't realize it at the time, but I paid $15 above the price listed on Scott's website. Sad Typical of daylily club autions, I've heard. Sticking tongue out As hubby says, "Profits are going to a good cause". Rolling my eyes. : Hopefully I'll get a nice big double-fan in the spring which grows nicely in its new home. Crossing Fingers!

Well, it's a beauty, Lori!

I have a few in mind to order in the spring. I am determined to cut way back on my incoming plants since I seriously am running out of room. I have one I tried to order this year from Simonton Bridge, but it is a newer cultivar, and she didn't have enough to sell yet. Since she had another one I wanted as well, I decided to hold off on that one till I can get both in order to save on shipping. Those are the only two "must-haves" for me. I know--famous last words... Whistling

I am waiting to see how my daylilies fare this Winter to place any orders in the Spring. There are hundreds I'd love to have, though none that I absolutely couldn't live without! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Same. I need to wait and see what I have space for. I am receiving Dragon Fish in the mail come Spring, as I won it at the LilyHemmer auction.

I also won Mayor of Cornatzer at the raffle at LilyHemmer, but I've already planted that.

@Zoia The bold colors on Dragonfish make a statement! I like that it has a 6" bloom. I am looking for big bold flowers, so I put it on my "Like to have" list.

So far I have two coming next spring. The Winter Soldier and Makers Mark.
First one for its VL bloom period. I watched it in Paul Lewis' garden on YouTube this fall. The second one for "Benz" genetics to add to what's here. Mid-season starter with high registered bud count for northern bred plant.

@Hazelcrestmikeb Mike, I see that Maker's Mark has a registered bud count of 50 with 5-way branching and a beautiful flower. There is no photo yet in the garden.org database (hint-hint) Can't wait to see how it does in your garden.

I only have one coming, and that's one more than I planned to have. It's Princess Diana, which I've tried to buy unsuccessfully for the previous two years. I wanted that one for hybridizing purposes.

I am totally out of room now, and my focus has shifted more to my seedlings than registered cultivars. So I've been moving out some of my registered daylilies.

Since I'm looking at closing down my garden within the next two years and have finally gotten the number of registered cultivars down to under 300, the answer should be "none." But I couldn't resist adding just one of Scott Elliott's new little ones which I'd judged for the Achievement Medal as a seedling when I judged a show in GA a couple of years ago. Scott named it 'Who Pinched the Mayor.' Great looking plant when I saw it previously. Beautiful branching and bud count.

Just finished with major downsizing, near 50% gone. Moved remaining to back garden, just too hard to fight the weeds and wasps in the former south side bed. Bought a few early fall and thought I was done. Then saw Woodhenge had "Puzzle Pieces" available Hurray! I will find the room! Since I had some momentum going , went ahead and ordered "Feng Zhu" from Northern Lights..... Then I found a source (Earthly Treasures) for "Purple Tarantula", very hard to find. So had to get it. Hope that's all.

Purple Tarantula at 52" tall definitely goes on my want list. If it is good at forming a big clump, it must be something to see in the garden!

I'll be sure to comment on how it does here @LoriMT. Seems like some feel it is slow to increase. We will see. Also, just won Gossards "Wheeljack" on the LA from Abundant Daylilies. Always good plants from them.

Purple Tarantula has been a slow increaser for me as well. I attribute it to only getting about 4 hours of sun and is near a tree and a shrub. And I am sure it leans a bit for the same reason. Another one that I need to move when space opens up in my sunnier garden. It is still only 3-4 fans in 8 years, but those blooms are simply stunning!

Purple Tarantula has been here for years. Even with an irrigation system and full sun, it has increased rather slowly and has never been anywhere close to 52." ( It grows near Dances with Giraffes and Cherry Peacock, both of which dwarf it.( CP is registered at 45" , DWG at 60".) I'd guess it comes in at about 42" on its best days. That being said, it is a beautiful bloom! I've had it since 2012 and have only divided it once.

Wow, lots of good input on Purple Tarantula. I see it was Daylily of the Day, and Vickie and Jill have already provided reviews. @floota Julie, maybe you can add your review here: The thread "Daylily of the Day: Purple Tarantula" in Plants of the Day forum

I will keep it on my want list, but not at the top, given the inclination of slow to increase.

I did list, on a previous post somewhere, the (5) Shallow Fords colour changer daylilies that I picked up 'accidentally' on the LA... (all pics came from the LA listings) Lovey dubby

And then, I picked up several more, including 'Tim Herrington' (Stout Silver Medal 2023)... Blinking

Thought I was 'done' ... until I got the email from Browns Ferry, reminding me of upcoming new releases and Last Chance daylilies, where I just ordered (7) from their close-outs (all photos are credit to Browns Ferry):

And I currently have bids on the LA for my 'last (4)' for next spring... I will list them if I get them. Whistling

@adknative Dianne, those are some beautiful daylilies! You will have a lot of planting to do in the spring! Hope you have the garden space for all those. I keep saying I don't have garden space for more daylilies, but I always seem to find a place for one more plant. Sticking tongue out

Those Browns Ferry selections are lovely. Their "last chance" sale is hard to resist. I especially like Tip of the Iceberg. I would be tempted, but the last time I ordered from them, all the plants got rust.
