Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with! Feel free to shoot me a tree-mail if you run into trouble. I'd be glad to try to talk you through any steps that are unclear. You know how something can make perfect sense to YOU, when you write it, because you already know what you're trying to say. Sometimes it isn't as clear to someone else trying to read it and follow the instructions. I recently had that problem trying to follow a recipe from someone for whom English wasn't the native language. I couldn't figure out how on earth I was supposed to marinate chicken in baking soda. LOL

Just dive in and do it! You'll find it isn't as hard as you think, and after you do a few, you really develop an eye for what pictures will make a good banner, and which don't.

I did read the instructions before and it made good sense, I just need to re-read and do some hands on! I tip my hat to you.
If you do resize a picture correctly then where do you post it?

If you go to the Site Banners forum (http://garden.org/forums/view/...) there is a box in the upper right sidebar that says, "Want to contribute a banner to be used on the site? » Upload a banner «" Just click on the "Upload a banner" link, and you can attach it there. It is really simple. After that, if you'd like to see if it has been approved or scheduled, just click on the same "Upload a banner" link. You'll be able to see all of the banners you have submitted, as well as their status and any scheduled dates.

Thanks, that sounds real easy! I remember I was going to watch the tutorial so that I would not look silly and forgot all about it! So I will just run with this and start by picking out a picture? I suppose that would be a good thing to do. Thanks for the link!

The image must be exactly 150 pixels high and at least 1,200 pixels wide. Note - we have hundreds of banners already submitted, so I'm getting more and more picky about what I select. Crying

Ok, I know what the problem is. I do not have 'Picture Manager'. I have 'Windows Live', they say it is better but it is not because it will only let you resize in one direction. Grumbling You can pick the width but not the height. Also when you crop something it does not give you the dimensions. Grumbling I went round and round with this thing last night. Grumbling
I read this forum the first time last december and I had already downloaded the http://pixlr.com/express/. I have been playing with this for a while now and I have enjoyed it. Your instructions helped even more. I did one last night but I was just playing and did not like that picture. I will try again!! I tip my hat to you.

I will try again when I have more time too. I didn't care for mine either and deleted it and figured it would not measure up. So we'll see......

It is a learning process, and you do develop more of an "eye" for what will make a good banner after you've done a few. Now I need this snow and ice to go away so I can take some new pictures!

That's exactly it! I messed around with it for a long time too, and now I can make banners anytime I have a few spare minutes (and the right picture, of course Smiling )

I agree especially when you get in close, some do not work out. It takes some time to figure out the ones that will work, but as mentioned, it great when you finally get that perfect one!
