Sorry about the arm pain. I just had a shot which might keep me for awhile as not being in the garden. Supposedly tendinitis, but would that come back? X rays at the end of aug. didn't show anything. I hope not a small tear. My asthma Dr. wouldn't ok anethetic for any operation.

Poor kids, all of you! Group hug

Finally dug and cleaned my cannas today before the downpour. *Man* do those things multiply.

Have been clearing out Bermuda grass from beds by hand... it's a little tedious, but somewhat rewarding at the same time. There's really no better way to do it, I'm afraid - Round up is good, but tough (even with tricks) in a planted bed. And it stops working on the BG when the temps drop below 70 at night.... grrrr....

Had my shot for my arm today. The pain will get better. Next shot--next yr? they will do an ultra sound. X- rays in Aug had not shown anything. Should schedule mamogram & no way was I going to lift up my arm, the way it was hurting. Can probably do that after TG.

I know. I planted a couple this year, soil is quite a bit clay where they are, and one of them grew like Jack's Beanstalk and is spreading all over. I have quite a few to plant next Spring. I'm going to try mulching over this winter and see what happens. If I didn't have so many "spare" tubers down in the garage, I wouldn't risk the zone-pushing but I know others do it.

That, and you can always keep one or two tubers of any one plant in case the others get nipped...

Anyone want any of the apple green leaves with yellow and orange polka dotted? Mine multiplied like *nuts*.

Planting this week - spent Mums, Tulips, Daffodils and Alliums, Crape Myrtles, perennials and too many Climbers. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes.

Ah, the subject of roses.
Last winter that is one of the ways we diagnosed the voles in our gardens.
They ate ALL the roots of a newly planted rose. I was wondering why it looked so poorly , went over and picked the skeletal remains right up from where it was delicately perched!
I was shocked.
Then after considerable research, and a few other signs (ate roots of a new Cherry tree, gnawing the stem to a point!) found out about VOLES.
We got a bait system which seemed to do the job and were able to successfully plant in those beds this summer, but.....

So, this year, I may many have dead roses, if the little buggers come back.
Taking a big chance! Blinking Blinking Blinking

I used to live in a near suburb of a large city. I never had a vole problem.
Now I live in a development that was once a farmland. Voles dont seem to migrate much.
I planted 200 daff bulbs around my lilis. I hope it works.
We had 3 cats, one was a great hunter, so we didnt have rabbits. The first year we lived here the rabbits were everywhere. One of the cats was a good hunter and kept the rabbits at bay.

She died in August. Now there re bunny sightings from time to time and the other day I saw one on the deck at the kitchen door.

We have some really bad years for voles, other years I don't see any. It's weird.

In summer 2010 we had a rabbit nest in my yard, and they whole family stayed all summer. They ate like pigs. My sedums were chewed all summer and I blamed the rabbits though I never caught them in the act.
