In case anyone missed this report:

"3 Studies Proving Toxic Glyphosate [Round Up ingredient] Found in Urine, Blood, and Even Breast Milk

Approximately 1 billion pounds of pesticides are sprayed on crops in the United States alone every single year. Thanks to pesticide/herbicide-resistant GMO crops, that number is growing every year. Much of this pesticide spraying contains a toxic ingredient known as glyphosate – the primary poisonous active ingredient in Monsanto’s best-selling herbicide RoundUp. Regulators as well as Monsanto claim that this ingredient is excreted from the body, but numerous studies have shown that not only is it causing numerous health problems, but it is showing up in urine samples, blood samples, and even breast milk.

1. Glyphosate Found in People’s Urine
It has been revealed by numerous scientists that herbicides and pesticides bioaccumulate in the body, eventually leading to a toxic overload of sorts. One study conducted by a German university found very high concentrations of glyphosate in all urine samples tested. The amount of glyphosate found in the urine was staggering, with each sample containing concentrations at 5 to 20-fold the limit established for drinking water. But this is just a single piece of evidence that pesticides are out of control...

.... The levels found in the breast milk testing of 76 ug/l to 166 ug/l are 760 to 1600 times higher than the European Drinking Water Directive allows for individual pesticides...."

Oh my gosh, that's horrible. So even if you try to garden organically we are still getting it in the food we eat.

If you have any, get rid of it. Grow as many of your own vegetables as you can and it might be more work but you will be healthier. I cannot control my meat products except maybe eat more fish, but there is pollution in the ocean too and where is the run off going? Into the water. I need to do more reading about how we can detox ourselves if it is at all possible, according to this article everything we eat is poisoned.

Susan - I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. I work at a public school and I see so many children with ADHD, ADD, varying degrees of autism, early puberty, over-weight, and other issues that I never, ever saw when I was growing up and going to school back in the 60's and 70's. I believe many of the causes to be coming from the food we are eating. And much research is proving that to be true.

Something else, much of our produce food now comes from other countries where the pesticides are not controlled or restricted. I try not to buy as much produce as I used to. And I do try to grow some of my own, but that can be tricky here in central Florida. Meat and fish also are being produced in foreign countries and sold here in our supermarkets. I try to read the labels to figure out where the food is coming from before purchasing it. But much of what is being produced in the USA isn't a whole lot safer. GMOs are big business for the major food companies.

Dave and Trish have the right idea in having a farm and producing as much of their own food as possible for their family. They know their food is organic and safe. I know more and more people are growing their own produce compared to even 5 years ago. I can't help but wonder what the future holds for the food industry....

Thanks Becky, I do not like getting food from foreign countries either, there is just not enough information. Some say their vegetables are organic but how do you really know?
I think it is a great idea to start growing our own. I would like to try something new each year, sure wish I had a farm!

It is then same here. So much produce is coming from other countries with lower agricultural standards. Sad

I grow my own produce during the summer, so I know for sure that it is organic. The best part though is that it tastes so much better than the store bought stuff!

Seems like I read somewhere that many organic fruits and veggies, grown here in the US, were tested and some came back positive for pesticides. Unless I grow it myself, I don't trust it to be organic. That isn't saying that there are no organic fruits and veggies in markets. The article was just stating that while some produce is claiming to be organic, it isn't always the case. I wish I could quote the source, but it was quite a while ago, and I don't remember where I read it. It could have been in the newspaper or in a magazine.

Glare And anyone can plaster that word "organic" on their product. It seems the roundup stays in your system forever and causes lots of diseases and cancers. I am just sick when I think about it, but growing our own is the thing to do.

Here is Michigan they just passed a law that states that no one living in the out lying areas of the city (suburbs) are allowed to have chickens. People here are really angry. There are several people I know that live on several acres of land and they have chickens and are not harming anyone but now they will be forced to get rid of them. The city of Livonia, Michigan, for example, has many areas that is like living in the country. We know people that live there that have a bit of land and have chickens and turkeys. Well now according to this new law, they will have to get rid of them. No small suburb farms allowed. People just want to grow their own food supply and won't be allowed to do it.

That's crazy!! They must have no idea how many people move to Michigan and put up with the sub-zero weather so they can enjoy a low cost of living and be able to have enough land to grow their own food and have chickens, etc. This is the American dream in the south, I am sorry to hear they are ruining it for people. I thought they wanted people to move there. I would love to be able to afford an acre of land and grow my own but it's not happening in the city. I will grow a few, maybe some in buckets but nothing like having your own small farm. We are not allowed to have or own a wild animal in the city. Hard to believe they can tell you that you cannot have a garden or chickens on your own land. That is the whole reason people move there and Michigan just dug their own grave as far as attracting people to the state, but there are other states and people will pursue their dreams.

I live in the county, not in city limits, and here it is county regulation that you have to have 3 acres before you can keep chickens. People do it anyway, but I guess if the county wanted to cut down on it, they could. I think it is none of their business if I have an elephant in my yard. As long as I take care of it and keep it on my side it is of no one's concern. :(

It is my idea that organic labeled produce could be anything, maybe the exact thing off the same truck as the 'regular' produce. Because who's gonna know? Who tests this stuff and how often? There is no oversight. I don't see anything wrong with trucking produce to a farmers market from another state. Many states are not able to adequately grow specific produce and so bringing it in from another state is necessary. There are some countries that have higher agricultural standards than the US. Just because a product is from another country does not in itself mean the produce is more unsafe or unhealthy. There are even some countries that have stricter standards on GMO and pesticides than we do. I agree that the pesticide is a serious problem and the GMO as well. But on the flip side of the coin, there is a huge population to feed. It is not feasible for every family to grow their own produce, meat and dairy ect. It is impossible to hand-pick worms, mites and grass hoppers off of hundreds of acres of crops. So what is the alternative to using pesticides? I know there are more organic/safer products and sprays to use, but why aren't they being used? Cost? less effective? no lucrative profits for big companies is most likely why. So my point is, people cannot just complain about how bad it is, there has to be an alternative solution offered publicly.

My guess is that the lobbyists for the big food companies get these laws and regulations passed. Money talks. Now-a-days it seems that these business don't listen or care unless people boycott their products (which hurt their business profits). So unless people take a stand, these companies will continue to put the public at risk for health issues from newborns to elderly (and everyone else in between). I say ... Grow what you can yourself!

Much to my surprise, I recently found out that my sub-division (which is residential homes) ... allows each homeowner to have 2 chickens! Really????!!!! I was totally shocked to hear that. But someone I know keeps 2 chickens (for the eggs every day) in their backyard in a chicken coop. It sure caught my attention when she said that!

Property here is 80' x 120' lots.... not acreage.

The problem is that families who do want to provide for their families either by necessity or for health reasons, are being told they cannot have chickens. That was the main meat source for my Grandmother who did live in the suburbs, Not to mention the eggs! She had six children to feed. If at all possible, grow chickens because at least you know what they have been eating. LOL.

Boycotting would not be a generally affective way to change anything regarding this issue IMO. There may be some small time wins contributed to a boycott, but nothing major will come of it -short of a miracle. At any rate, it would be years in the making. First off mainstream media is not going to let the public masses in on the truth. People are being spoon fed the ideas of how safe and wonderful it all is. When was the last time someone flipped on the ol TV and heard Ms Newsreporter say their food is poisoning them? Not gonna happen. People who try to speak out about it are ridiculed and made to look old-fashioned, uneducated and paranoid ect. The other problem with a boycott is that there are not alternatives. Generally a boycott is effective because there are other alternatives to choose from. Suppose Hamburger Company 1 started contributing money to an organization that the majority of their customers were against. Customers would then simply start eating hamburgers at Hamburger Company 2. Basically the same product, price and service. With the GMO/pesticide issue, that isn't feasible. There is very little organic/safe food available. It is sometimes 2 or 3 times as expensive. The average Joe working minimum wage and supporting 2 kids and a dog cannot afford that. He is most likely on food stamps himself! Generally a boycott would involve *a* company or *a* product. But this issue involves the majority of companies and almost all of the food supply. It's not like simply saying "I will just eat bananas and not buy apples". It's not a single product-it's in everything.

Next, these companies are so large (money speaking) and have government support, so that a boycott would not actually hurt their wallet. Because? A boycott could not last long enough to actually damage them. It's like a little town trying to hold down the fort in a war. Pretty soon the water and food supply is cut off and they either surrender or starve. Same thing here. These big companies know that a boycott could not last long enough to pressure/force them into changing anything. They will simply hold out. This is not just a geographically contained problem. It is global. As I stated in an earlier post there are other countries against it, but then again, that looks good on paper. How long will it actually last. I woudn't put it past some gov to *say* their food is not GMO but just like the issue of the organic produce--who's gonna know? Plenty of other countries have given the stamp of approval. While the boycott is going on, Ms Newsreporter is going to continue educating the public on the newest studies and tests that confirm the boycotters are off their rockers. A team of experts will come in to repair the GMO/big company image and rescue them. The puppets will believe it. Back to square one. In the meantime, there are molehill issues being made into mountain issues, in order to steer unwanted attention away from the real mountains. I don't have the answer, how to fix it. But the bottom line is-change will need to come by boycotting *small* companies/stores, by educating people one at a time using factual information and to continue publishing studies that are legitimately finding fault with the products, and by offering alternatives that are realistically feasible. Offering those alternatives is the key issue. Without alternatives- READ *choices* -not many have any choice but to hope Ms Newsreporter is right.
It is not realistically feasible to promote the idea of the public masses to simply produce their own food in their non-existant back yards or to boycott the only affordable and readily available food sources they have.

With all that said, I'm gonna grow a garden!!!

I was only pointing out that anyone can add an Organic label to their product. I only want to support local farming and see US agriculture get back on track and away from GMO's. I believe everyone has a right to know where their food is coming from and what is in it so we can make our own decisions or grow our own if we want to.

Some states are trying to enact laws that would make labeling GMO products mandatory. Some products are labeled as GMO free by the manufacturer, which I love to see on a product. But then so many products aren't labeled either way. I would LOVE to see companies be mandated to label GMO smack on the front so everyone can see it. I think they are fighting this because they know that many people will then have a choice and will not choose to buy it. I think there should be more information disclosed on labels because, like you Susan, I think everyone has the right to know what their food IS! I get so disappointed (maybe alarmed?) when I read so many food labels and see they are not US products. I'm like seriously? We can't grow this? I don't think we should be importing ANY foods unless it is something we can't grow here. I am also badly wanted corn labeled in the allergy section on the nutrition label. I am allergic to corn and it is a major allergen for thousands of people, but they refuse to label it. I have to guess if it's in something. Sometimes I find out by eating it after I thought it was 'safe'. Sad
