Some of the Tree Philos (P. bipinnatifidum) are bent and leaning from the hurricane winds.

But Philodendron 'Fantasy' (a/k/a P. domesticum) is still clinging and climbing an oak without any wind damage:

Anybody, Any takers for Phlo. Florida Beauty? Got some broken stems and no where to put them. Hate to throw them out.

Tree Philo (P. bipinnatifidum) that had to be dug up so my greenhouse could be moved over the spot where they were. The foliage may not survive some winters but the roots should, especially in these sheltered spots. I put one here:

Gene, that 'Imperial Red' is gorgeous ... you should add your photo to the database: Blushing Philodendron (Philodendron 'Imperial Red')

I do see Tree Philodendron (Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum) (synonym selloum) peeking out at the bottom of that last photo and I love that GIANT in front of the fireplace! It doesn't have the wavy like leaves shown in database pictures of Giant Philodendron (Philodendron giganteum) and it reminds me more of Spade Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron 'Fantasy') Whichever it is, it sure is gorgeous ... great growing! I used to have a bunch of Philodendron's but most all have gone by the wayside along the way as I've downsized. Gene, your post got me to looking around to see what I still have. It's been a dreary, drizzly day here but I went out and took some photos.

This is Philodendron xanadu sitting out by the pool, I want to get it into the ground at some point but as I get older, I get lazier and more forgetful. I got this as a very small plant in the summer of 2007 and it's been rootbound in this pot for a long while now. I think it would be much happier if it were in the ground .... or else a larger container.

This is a Philodendron bipennifolium that I almost lost to a winter freeze a few years ago; it froze back to a single little piece of stem but it's made a nice comeback the past couple of years since I keep it in a more protected area now when we get cold snaps!

What is the best lighting for your run of the mill Philodendrons, i.e. Heart-leaf? I seem to have little luck with these, as their new leaves always come in tiny or small. I have an East window, does it need to be right on the ledge perhaps?

@Hamwild, I've always grown the heart leaf types below, indoors in low light, not even near a window and they've done very well.

Heart Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium)
Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium 'Brasil')

I also have two Satin Pothos (Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus') under shrubs in full shade in the yard and one inside the house on a plant stand across the room from the window and it seems to do fine as well.

Agree, a leaf worth seeing, and worth its' own discussion!
https://garden.org/thread/go/4...

Ham, heart-leaf vine really can grow in a more dim spot than most other plants. It's the very last one on my light-priority list, of the plants I have.

Maybe someone can help me out on this question? My phlo leaves grow exgagarated the older they get. Lin showed her Philodendron bipennifolium which is just lovely. Mine started out this way and now some leaves got more curves than expected! Is it the same group or in another group?

Very nice! I really like the looks of the leaves of your Variegated Philodendron (Philodendron 'Florida Beauty Variegata')

LOL regarding being in the same group ... all I know is that they are all in the plant genus Philodendron and that juvenile leaves can be totally different from the mature leaf form! There's more information regarding Florida Beauty here: http://www.exoticrainforest.co...

I've had my Horsehead Philodendron (Philodendron bipennifolium) for at least eight years and the leaf shape hasn't changed much but it stays pretty root bound in it's pot and hasn't been given the means to really take off.

Lin, Thank you. It's name when purchased was 'Florida Beauty Alba'. It has a more marbled effect than 'Variegata' which they sold for much more. I am always cutting off the runners and giving them away. I can give you some come warmer weather if you what?

A week or so ago someone commented that I did not show enough leaves from P. Giganteum. The way the weather is outside today, ( -2F and windy right now) this is fun. Gene

Gene, What's fun about -2F outside? Glad I'm retired and can stay home and just look outside and enjoy this forum. I just love looking at your plants, reminds me of my childhood when they were some of my first plants. Just no where to winter over such large plants. Reason why I switched to Haworthias and small Aloes. All windows are full and got stands in basement with shop lights over them. Plus my old fishtank filled with sansevierias.

I do not exactly live in the tropics so a Philo. blooming is a big event for me. Philodendron "Moonlight" putting out a bloom stalk. Now that's what I call a Christmas present. Just went to Wiki - philodendrons - reproduction. Boy, complicated. Gene
