That is interesting background info about the hybridizer Nicole. Do people always register their daylilies under their own name or sometimes use an alias?

I only have (2) Daylilies. They are 2-year old plants. One is Peach, the other is Red. I love them both.
But I have noticed that their bloom season this Summer was rather Short. And the Daylilies in the entire area it seems have also "petered-out" early. Shame. I was hoping they would be in bloom for
a longer season this Summer.

Hi Becky - We started off the season rather Wet . . . . . then it became warmer and warmer and now it's Hot. And I noticed everyone's Daylilies in my neighborhood have burnt up, are all brown and there are no more blooms. I don't recall my Daylilies bumming out so early last Summer ! Sad

My daylilies started bloom a week to l0 days earlier than last summer so they are practically all bloomed out. I have about a dozen late ones still blooming.

Mine bloomed early this year. Saw first blooms in March and the big show ended in May. Usually the big show is the end of June into early July. We had dry and very warm weather during that time. But it got quite hot in July and we only started getting rainfall (which is 1-2 months late this year!) in July. Some reblooms, but not many because most of mine are new additions or seedlings.

And here in VT, my season was about 10 days to 2 weeks late, due to a prolonged Winter, both with high snow totals and bitter cold temps for an extended time. I never thought it would end! I did not buy any new daylilies last Winter at all, I was so worried about the garden. I did lose 6 registered daylilies, and 9 sdlgs. Broke my heart to lose so many. One thing I have noticed. Because, I have not introduced any new plants from down south in my garden this year, I have absolutely no sign of 'rust'.....anywhere. 'Rust' does not Winter over here in VT., anyway.Too cold. But there have been years when I brought a lot of plants from Fla., and my end of season hillside garden was tinged with brown rust-ladened leaves. This year that is not happening. All leaves are green.

Another tidbit. For 3 yrs. I have used 'organic alfalfa meal', not the pellets. I have to order that over the Internet (50 lb. bags). It's expensive because of shipping costs. But 1 bag lasted me 2 1/2 yrs. This year, I tried the pellets. Oh my goodness, what a difference. Never again. It turned all my dayliliy blooms into this orange color when they first bloomed. I was aghast. Many blooms returned to there original specs after awhile, but for me it was a lesson learned. I like the organic alfalfa meal, and will go back to that. My daylilies also thrived and grew much bigger with the meal. Lesson learned. You get what you pay for. Also, one bag of pellets was used up in a month, where 1 bag of the meal lasted 2 1/2 yrs. Just 'my' personal reflections for my garden in VT.

Alex - Interesting info about the Alfalfa meal. Thanks for sharing that. I might try the meal if I can find it locally, just to compare the two.

Thanks everyone for sharing! Only 3 daylilies blooming today here in Stockbridge, GA. Bloom started in early May and has lasted a long time, but things are winding down now. It has been HOT and really dry here. Please excuse the brown foliage... I added earlier season photos of each for comparison.

Janice Brown 8/05/15 - Colors are not as vivid as they were earlier in the season, but this is still one of my favorites.

Rainbow Over Georgia 8/05/15 - rebloom scapes still have a few buds left. This one took a couple years to settle in, but it has really performed well this season.

Jessie - Oooooh ... thanks for posting the photos of early blooms vs. the later blooms. Boy did they change and look even more amazing! That is really cool how they look now. Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Becky....it's harder to find the organic alfafa meal than the pellets. But I would imagine that living in Florda with so many growers down there, you should find it easily. Trust me, the 'organic meal' makes a big difference in your garden. You will notice the difference within 6 weeks.

I wonder if a persons soil and other things factor into how the alfalfa pellets work. I had not used them before it was recommended to me here on ATP last fall. There is a mill in the area that makes them and they are suppose to be as close to 100 per cent alfalfa as possible.

Never in my wildest dreams could I have hoped for the gardens that I had this year. Plants with more scapes than I had ever seen, huge flowers, and the sharpest colors I have ever had. Add to that, the latest bloom season ever in this area, and you have one happy gardener.

This has just been my experience and I am sure all the rain helped too. I have a lot of sinus problems so the meal might be too much dust for me to handle. I would sure give it a try if it wasn't for the shipping.
Happiness is doing for those who cannot do for themselves.

Me, too! Shipping is the deal breaker here. I will have to call around to the local feed stores to see if anyone carries the meal.

I took a look at that one, Claudia, and both of it's parents show rust resistance. My guess is this cultivar is also rust resistant! It sounds like it would be a good one for the south being evergreen, too!

Thanks for the info. We were just speaking of "Alfalfa" on the Iris forum - since I am a big grower of Iris - and one of the other forum members mentioned using Alfalfa for her Iris and said it made a huge difference. So, Thanks for the update and the great information Thumbs up Smiling
