I checked 3 stores yesterday, one Lowes had no bulbs, and HD was down the dregs with a few tulips, and I bought their last bag of hyacinths, HD is still %50 off. I bought the last 6 bags of hyacinths from Walmart, each bag had 4 bulbs, and originally cost $3.92, I paid $3.00 per bag, not much of a sale Glare

A local couple in the Bluegrass iris club are also daffodil enthusiasts and had extra bulbs to share. So I enjoyed this warm weather planting daffodils! Some interesting varieties I wasn't familiar with:

Still waiting for Lowes to exceed 75 % off. Green Grin!

And yeah - I have a fall Safron crocus blooming that I just planted 2 months ago.
We are going back in the deep freeze Wed 30s hi - 20s lo.

I still have ~ 100 bulbs to plant. Sighing! Today I did Master Naturalist planting on a highway ROW project. We have adopted 6 areas on US 36 running from St. Joseph (West most) to Hannibal (East most). And when I got home, had to finish the outside lights. Finally done. Maybe.

So maybe I will plant that last 100 bulbs tomorrow in the rain. Grumbling

What colors are in the Tequila Sunrise Hyacinth mix? I'm looking forward to seeing your photos of it (and the rest of your bulbs) next year.

While walking w/ Plato... here's is a pic of the crocus (like) flower I'd mentioned previously - blooming in mid December (temp got to 70° today)

(I know the pic is horrible. (but the leaves around it aren't so bad.)

Neal, the daffodil varieties you planted are beautiful! I have not heard of them either, I look forward to seeing your blooms
of these next spring.

David, it sounds like you had quite a busy day yesterday. What did you plant along the highway? I always enjoy seeing what each state does when we're on long road trips, especially when we're traveling through SC and NC from GA.

@Marilyn, thanks, and here's a picture of the Hyacinth Tequila Sunrise mix.

David, when I read "Today I did Master Naturalist planting on a highway ROW project" I was thinking "Naturalist" meant nudist and had to chuckle out loud at the thought of a group of naked middle aged folks working on the side of the highway! Rolling on the floor laughing

Jack, is that bloom about the size of a large flowered spring crocus? From what I can tell, I think its more likely a fall crocus than colchicum.

Annette, that's a pretty blend of colors! I wouldn't have thought about Woodstock looking so pretty with the other 2.

Yes Neal. I'll defer to your designation but in spite of it's lovely leaf surround, desist from making it a db entry.

Well - we were over-planting and replanting. Yesterday we planted Red Buds, Swamp Milkweed, Slender Mountain Mint and Showy Goldenrod. The area also has Queen Ann's Lace, Illinois Bundleflower and a couple other natives. Once the Redbuds get bigger, the area will be quite spectacular. Oh well, Sighing! "A society is great when old people plant trees whose shade they will never enjoy".

Rolling on the floor laughing Neal - Naturalist - not Naturist. (Not sure that is a word). But yes - that would have been a hoot! And would have created quite a traffic problem. We were right at the intersection of US 36 & major state Rte 33. US 36 is one of the largest and longest non-"Interstate" highways in the US and carries a lot of traffic.

Thanks Neal, I also mixed in some of the red hyacinth bulbs that I got with the Tequila Sunrise, it is now more like a Margarita 🍹Sunrise with all the crazy colors😂

David I do hope you will be around to enjoy all those plants that were put in Smiling

Today was a great day for planting, almost a little too warm. I planted 300 Crocus Ruby Giant, 78 Hyacinths, and almost all of the tulips. 62 of those Hyacinths were planted in my street bed, and the other 16 in pots.

I thought I was down to the last 17 tulips of the Pink Mix to plant, however, I found 2 more bags of Renown at the bottom of the box with the Crocus Ruby Giant. I only ordered 100 Renown, but wound up with 120 bulbs of them.

I happy that of the 1833 bulbs that needed to be planted, I only have 277 left, plus my bucket of tulips that I dug up from under the cherry trees.

Ten Dutch Master daffs and 100 Darwin tulips. I had to force myself to complete this task, big rain coming tomorrow. I am so thankful that is done. Several smallers bags of assorted goodies to go. I've got anemones to plant, this is my first time. Anyone else grow them?

@Cem9165

Thanks for the photo showing the Hyacinth colors. With the red ones you planted with them, I'm looking forward to seeing them all in bloom.

You got a lot of planting done! Thumbs up

Where did you get the Renown tulips at? A wonderful bonus of 20 extra! Hurray!

You're welcome Marilyn! The Renown tulips came from Van Engelen.

Yep, I got a lot of planting done, I can't believe I did so many bulbs in 1 day, including 300 crocus Ruby Giant.

I forgot to mention, I've been spraying the areas where I've planted bulbs with Neem oil diluted in water, and so far the bulbs have not been disturbed by the critters, we'll see how long this is going to last.

Well done Annette! I find it usually does go much faster than I've anticipated. And it feels nice after a day of digging when I lay down to go to bed envisioning all those blooms Smiling

I found a receipt I'd misplaced and realized I'd planted more bulbs this year than I'd previously thought- I did exceed 2000 bulbs again this year!

Neal, this is my own experiment, hoping the smell of the oil will keep the critters away. I use 2 tbs Neem oil per gallon of water, and I sprayed the ground over where the bulbs are planted, and then the pine bark mulch I place over them. I spray every few days in the areas where the bulbs aren't protected by the landscape mesh. I'll let you know how it goes with the Neem oil.

Planting 2000 bulbs is a lot of work, and I'm right there with you. Spring is going to be spectacular next year Smiling !
